About The Position

The California Coalition for Worker Power (CCWP) is a statewide coalition of worker centers, labor policy advocates, and unions focused on advancing strategies that build durable worker power across California. The coalition prioritizes structural reforms to strengthen worker organizations, expand collective voice, and protect workers, particularly immigrant and Black workers, from retaliation and exploitation. CCWP is seeking an Interim Managing Director with expertise in coalition dynamics, operational systems, and finances, who can collaborate effectively with the CCWP leadership team, staff, and partners.

Requirements

  • Strong systems thinking and attention to detail, with the ability to see the big picture, connect across functions, and build practical systems that support organizational effectiveness.
  • Strong project and program management skills, including the ability to develop plans, establish timelines, coordinate stakeholders, and ensure projects move from strategy to completion.
  • The ability to thrive in complexity, manage competing priorities, and exercise sound judgment in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
  • Familiarity with financial systems and tools, including QuickBooks, Bill.com, and related nonprofit financial management systems.
  • Understanding of nonprofit organizational structures and organizational development and security.
  • Experience with coalition-based work, including the ability to build relationships, coordinate across diverse stakeholders, follow through on commitments, and help groups move from discussion to action.
  • Familiarity with the California labor movement, including an understanding of its organizations, stakeholders, priorities, and organizing and coalition-building approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust, create accountability, and move work forward across teams and organizations.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented approach, with the ability to identify what needs to happen, bring the right people together, and follow through to get it done.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a process to consolidate the coalition’s organizational structure, including transition to a single fiscal entity.
  • Oversee the completion of the coalition’s financial systems, identifying gaps and implementing practical systems to improve financial visibility, accountability, compliance, and decision-making.
  • Lead and oversee the 2027 budget process and subgrants process, including strategy development, budget and subgrant amount decisions, staff coordination, disbursement management, and ensuring financial documentation and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with coalition’s financial policies and procedures, grant requirements, accounting standards, and other financial obligations.
  • Monitor budget-to-actual performance, identify trends, variances, and potential over- or underspending, and collaborate with staff and leadership.
  • Support the development and implementation of organizational security protocols.
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the coalition, ensuring clear, effective, and aligned decision-making structures, roles, responsibilities, and processes.
  • Ensure continuity between coalition meetings and decision-making spaces, communicating decisions, next steps, ownership, and timelines.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to coalition leadership, navigating competing priorities, resolving organizational and governance challenges, and maintaining focus on shared goals.
  • Maintain clear governance documentation, including decisions, policies, roles, meeting records, and workplans.
  • Evaluate and strengthen coalition governance practices over time.
  • Coordinate and facilitate staff and Leadership team meetings, including agenda development, topic prioritization, scheduling, and ensuring clear decisions and next steps.
  • Plan and coordinate Leadership Team and Coordinating Committee retreats.
  • Provide strategic oversight of organizational priorities, ensuring focus on measurable outcomes and long-term vision.
  • Track organizational commitments, priorities, and deliverables, proactively identifying potential delays or capacity challenges.
