Interim Elementary School Nurse
About The Position
Provides professional nursing care and medical support to students, including early identification of health concerns, health assessments, disease prevention, and support for health education and immunization programs. This role serves students in K through Grade 4 and acts as a health consultant, ensuring the school health program aligns with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies. The nurse will collaborate with child-support agencies, provide first aid, maintain health supplies, conduct health education, and perform follow-up evaluations. Additionally, the position involves completing vision screenings, communicating with parents, maintaining health records, and charting in Infinite Campus.
Requirements
- RN, BSN
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina is preferred but not required.
- The school nurse must be highly mobile and capable of navigating various campus terrains and multi-level buildings rapidly to ensure student and staff safety.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive school nursing services to students in K through Grade 4.
- Follow policies, procedures, and work standards for the school health program.
- Serve as a health consultant and provide leadership in ensuring the school health program aligns with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies.
- Prepare health reports for the Director or his/her designee as requested.
- Collaborate with child-support agencies to design and deliver school health services.
- Provide first aid and medically prescribed services.
- Maintain the security of school health supplies, i.e., medications, etc.
- Provide health education aligned with the state curriculum (K–12), as assigned.
- Serve as a resource on health issues and participate in the School Nursing Team at PCCS.
- Provide professional development on health-related topics for school staff as needed.
- Conduct follow-up student health evaluations as needed and recommend corrective action when concerns are identified.
- Complete vision screenings as requested for students on Tier 2 or in the referral process.
- Communicate with parents or guardians regarding student health needs.
- Maintain records of immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health information.
- Chart in Infinite Campus.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
