About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity for an Interim Director of Maintenance and Operations located at our campus in Temecula, CA. The Interim Director of Maintenance and Operations will report to the Dean of Facilities Planning, Capital Construction and Support Services. The purpose is to promote a clean, safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and members of the campus community and guests; to supervise and direct activities of the assigned campus Supervisor of Maintenance and Operations, Supervisor of Custodial Services, Supervisor of Grounds, and Administrative Assistant II; plan, coordinate and oversee assigned campus Facilities Use requests; assigned site energy management; assigned site utility and infrastructure usage management; participates in Capital Construction and Capital Outlay activities as assigned; liaison with outside agencies as assigned; responsible for the inventory and management of District assets as assigned; responsible for adherence to State and local agency regulatory compliance. This is an administrative position, exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, with responsibility for formulation and recommendation of district policies, regulations and budget decisions related to the area of responsibility. Initial placement on the salary schedule will be commensurate with education and experience, along with a cell phone allowance stipend . Classified administrators serve under contract and make contributions toward PERS (a retirement plan). Benefit package includes comprehensive medical, dental and vision plans, life insurance, sick leave, and 22 days of vacation per year. While this current vacancy is expected at the Temecula Valley Campus, Administrators serve district-wide and may be assigned to the San Jacinto Campus, the Menifee Valley Campus, the Temecula Valley Campus or any District facility. Additional openings that become available prior to the end of the hiring process may also be filled from the qualified applicants. This recruitment is for an interim, full-time assignment for September 2026 - June 2027 (or until filled)

Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree; (attach transcripts)
Five (5) years of professional experience managing multi-faceted Maintenance and Operations teams in the disciplines of grounds, HVAC, Electrical, Custodial, carpentry, plumbing, and other skilled trades
Broad knowledge of facilities-related initiatives and an understanding of the impact to the organization of such initiatives
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
Possession of or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire, a valid California driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the District
If selected, employment commencement is contingent upon successful enrollment in the District’s DMV Pull Program. Employees enrolled in the DMV Pull Program MUST continuously maintain a driving record that meets District requirements set forth in the current policy as it relates to allowable types of infractions and points.

Nice To Haves

Four (4) years of professional experience relating to the management and supervisory of maintenance and operations staff, contracted staff management, managing multi-faceted Maintenance and Operations teams in the disciplines of grounds, HVAC, Electrical, Custodial, carpentry, plumbing and other skilled trades compliance with local, State and Federal regulations as it pertains to facility operations.

Responsibilities

Administer and collaborate policy and procedures with Maintenance Operations, Grounds, Custodial, at Mt. San Jacinto Community College District campus locations as assigned and ensure quality and consistent work standards
Establish goals and objectives for facilities and capital projects
Provide direction for day-to-day maintenance and operations including specialty trades area such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC
Through subordinate staff manage multiple sports facilities including stadiums, football fields, basketball courts, gymnasiums, baseball and softball diamonds, tennis courts, and sand volleyball
Responsible for the maintenance of several off-site locations which includes several District offices
Participate, serve, chair on multiple College committees, including planning, accreditation, union negotiations, and disaster preparedness
Provide leadership in the new emerging technologies
Provide input to construction and design teams for construction projects and major renovations as it relates to sustainability, life cycle costs, and maintainability
Monitor remodel and repair construction projects performed by contractors including planning, design, oversight, and inspection
Ensure that all construction and remodeling comply with applicable building codes and regulations relating to school and public building construction
Establish standards and suitability requirements for construction equipment, materials, and workmanship
Direct the energy conservation programs for the college. Oversee systems and data management for optimizing energy conservation in classrooms, meeting rooms, and public areas
Ensure the college is in compliance with appropriate laws, codes, and regulations regarding construction, building safety, and safe work practices
Plan, design, and implement a facilities usage process for the college. Recommend appropriate rules and policies for usage.
Negotiate and secure Maintenance and Inspection contracts for fire, elevators, HVAC, and Facilities related equipment
Establish and maintain objectives of automated work order processing systems
Lead the development and execution of a broad-based strategic sustainability initiative, integrating sustainability throughout the college. Ensure that the college’s sustainability effort enhances the business performance and supports long-term interests
Serve as a member of the Management Leadership Team
Maintain an understanding of current ideas, research and practices pertaining to the areas of responsibility for this position, through continued study and participation in professional organizations
