About the Role: The Interim Director of Human Resources leads HR strategy and operations, reporting to the President and serving on the executive team. The role focuses on aligning HR practices with institutional goals, overseeing workforce planning, employee relations, organizational development, and compliance. It also supports organizational change, enhances HR systems, and promotes an inclusive, high-performing workplace during a period of transition.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a senior HR leadership role, preferably within higher education or a public sector environment
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and labor relations practices
  • Demonstrated experience in collective bargaining and contract interpretation
  • Expertise in employee relations, conflict resolution, and organizational development
  • Experience leading change management initiatives and improving HR operations
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and fostering a diverse workplace

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the institution's mission.
  • Advise executive leadership on HR policies, workforce planning, and organizational development, and support change management initiatives.
  • Oversee HR functions and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Improve HR processes, systems, communications, and maintain HR policies and procedures.
  • Manage employee relations and conflict resolution.
  • Promote equity, inclusion, and engagement, and support performance management and evaluation processes.
  • Lead or support collective bargaining with faculty unions and interpret employment policies, contracts, and labor agreements.
  • Develop efficient HR staffing models, contribute to budget planning, and serve as a liaison between equity-focused employee groups and executive leadership.
