About The Position

The Interconnection Specialist plays a central role in the Distributed Energy Resource (DER) interconnection process, by efficiently and accurately processing customer and developer applications for interconnection, and acting as the primary point of contact for applicants throughout the interconnection life cycle. The Interconnection Specialist has primary responsibility to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with developers and customers seeking to interconnect DERs to the distribution system, while delivering a Premier Customer Experience throughout the process.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree with 2-4 years of experience; or in lieu of a degree, must have minimum of 3-6 years of relevant business experience.
  • Experience demonstrating skill providing a Premier Customer Experience, including: Investigating, resolving and following up on customer inquiries; Using a customer information system to verify applicant information, if necessary,
  • Experience demonstrating skill building and maintaining professional relationships.
  • Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and e-mail software and the Internet portal to perform work functions.
  • Ability to understand basic electrical concepts (e.g., voltage, current, power, energy)
  • Ability and willingness to adhere to applicable safety regulations and policies, and to demonstrate a commitment to safety.
  • Must successfully pass a Criminal History Background Check which consists of a 7-year criminal records check for felony convictions, if applicable

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of utility distribution grid interconnections, net metering, renewable energy
  • Working knowledge of enterprise programs and systems that enable distribution interconnections, such as Asset Suite 8, GIS, customer information systems, etc.
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field
  • Knowledge of regulatory issues affecting DER interconnection and metering.
  • Experience demonstrating skill identifying trends/metrics and/or recommending best practices for policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of how to ensure compliance with interconnection regulations.
  • Experience demonstrating skill using utility or industry customer information systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with customers, developers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure a Premier Customer Experience with the interconnection process. Act as primary liaison with applicants throughout the interconnection life cycle to address their needs and expectations. This includes assisting applicants with navigation and use of online interconnection tools; and providing guidance to, and resolving a variety of issues for, applicants such as applicable regulatory requirements and tariffs, and addressing incomplete or inaccurate applications.
  • Process customer and developer applications for interconnection of DERs, received either via the online interconnection application tool, email, or via hard copy application. This includes initial review of applications for completeness and technical accuracy and processing associated payments from customers.
  • Manage the timely, efficient processing and transfer of required interconnection documentation (e.g., applications, study agreements, contracts, certificates of completion, permission to operate) with customers and developers
  • Build and leverage effective working relationships with internal process stakeholders, and facilitate timely, efficient workflow between stakeholder organizations including Capacity Planning, Project Management, New Business, Net Metering, Billing, etc.
  • Ensure accurate and timely input of information into the tool, including communications with applicants, uploading relevant documentation, and maintaining current application status.
  • Interface with various Exelon enterprise programs and systems (e.g., Asset Suite 8) to facilitate processing of interconnection applications, and produce status, performance, and other process reports, as needed.
  • Assist with management of metrics and resource performance including cycle times and workload volumes. Report performance to appropriate internal and external stakeholders and management.
  • Assist with the management of special interconnection related process improvement projects.

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $68,000.00/Yr. – $93,500.00/Yr.
