About The Position

This position will be responsible for evaluating Generator Step Up Transformer (GSU) station equipment for GPC owned generation assets. Specifically, transmission interconnected generation stations and interconnecting tie lines. Will work with substation support, Transmission and Distribution organizations on maintenance activity coordination. Will help determine line of demarcation for all Self Build GSU stations and for existing stations with new build generation connections. This position handles communication with all parties impacted and ensures that a timely and accurate response is developed for each new request and existing assets. This position will coordinate with Georgia Power Transmission, Distribution, Generation, Southern Company Services Design, and Project Management.

Requirements

• Experience and understanding of design, operation, and maintenance processes for substations and transmission lines.
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the transmission system, engineering principles, electric operating practices, construction practices and general business practices.
• Strong analytical skills to identify problem areas, evaluate alternatives, financial impacts and determine viable solutions to meet both the GPC and System need.
• Demonstrated focus on Safety.
• Demonstrated leadership on projects involving multiple work groups and departments.
• Strong communication and presentation skills with internal and external audiences with both technical and non-technical backgrounds.
• Knowledge of the Transmission or Distribution system.
• Ability to build and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and communicate effectively at all levels including executives, management, supervision, covered employees, contract employees, business leaders, and all customers.
• Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize large volumes of project data.
• Knowledge of Microsoft’s Excel, PowerPoint, and Word programs.
• Demonstrates a results-oriented approach with ownership and personal accountability for assigned responsibilities.

• Four (4) year B.S. Engineering Degree or Engineering Technology Degree required - Electrical desired or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience and understanding related to project management, planning, design, operations, construction or maintenance of the electric transmission and/or distribution system is required.

Nice To Haves

• Specific experience related to generator interconnection processes and implementation is desired.
• Knowledge of Microsoft’s Power Automate and Power BI desired
• Knowledge of TEAMS, and STOMP desired.

Responsibilities

• Under technical guidance of the Transmission and Distribution Maintenance Support departments; track, update and maintain information related to assets in GSU stations and gen tie lines.
• Under technical guidance of the Transmission Project Management department develop and/or review project scope, project completion timelines and transmission cost estimates (TEAMS) related to GSU stations for GPC Generator Interconnection requests.
• Work closely with the accounting organization to ensure proper assignment, handling and budgeting of costs associated with generation interconnection upgrades.
• Under technical guidance of the SCS Policy & Services Implementation Project Management group, provide necessary input on Interconnection Agreements and other related contracts and documentation per FERC guidelines and ensure interconnection contracts are thorough and meet the needs of the customer while meeting Georgia Power and Southern Company’s compliance guidelines.
• This position needs to understand and follow Standard of Conduct Policy around Generation RFPs.
• Coordinate and participate in activities required per ITS Planning Procedure 13 (Guidelines for Interconnecting New Generation to the Georgia ITS) along with other applicable ITS Planning and Operating Guidelines and Procedures and other generation interconnection activities requested by the ITS Participants.
• Maintain databases, spreadsheets, and other documentation to facilitate tracking of disposition of requests and progress of budgeted projects to ensure that service commitments are being met.
• Provide regular updates/communications on project status (i.e., Originators, T&D Management, TMCs, and project team).
• This position requires storm response, both on and occasionally off system.
