About The Position

The mission of the Division of Transportation Solutions is to provide excellence in transportation by developing, constructing and maintaining the State's infrastructure in a manner that results in a safe, cost-effective, and efficient multi-modal transportation network that enhances mobility commerce, and livability. In addition, Transportation Solutions provides high quality support services to other divisions in the department. This position is responsible for maintenance work on traffic signal & Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment. The candidate will install, modify, test, troubleshoot & repair traffic control signals, communications & ITS field devices. The position has rotational on-call duties & must respond to emergency situations (including nights, weekends, & holidays). The candidate must follow applicable safety procedures, operate equipment such as bucket trucks, underground locating equipment & electrical test equipment. The candidate must also be physically able to lift materials such as pedestrian signal poles & other traffic signal equipment. The applicant must be able to report to their duty station within 60 minutes to respond to operational emergencies.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of electronics or electrical installation.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs a variety of intelligent transportation systems equipment.
  • Repairs copper-wired, fiber-optic, and wireless communication systems related to intelligent transportation systems equipment.
  • Tests intelligent transportation systems equipment using detection software and a variety of testing devices such as multi-meters, meggars, GPS equipment, and oscilloscopes.
  • Interprets blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams for the purpose of diagnosing intelligent transportation systems equipment.
  • Applies the standards, principles, and practices of the department safety manual, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and the National Electrical Code.
  • Responds to emergencies relating to problems and situations involving intelligent transportation system equipment.
  • Transfers data to and from field unit devices such as traffic signal controllers, piezoelectric axle sensors, and automatic data recorders into a computer database.
  • Detects, locates, and marks out underground utilities.
  • May perform field counts for traffic control and timing.
  • Operates motorized equipment such as an aerial lift device with extended arm for purposes of repairing and replacing intelligent transportation systems equipment.
