About The Position

Performs intermediate to advanced work involving the collection, analysis, and dissemination of crime, intelligence data to support investigations and supports intelligence led policing by identifying threats, criminal networks, and patterns of offender behavior. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, criminology, social science, data/information science, or a closely related field.
  • Two years of full-time experience in research, crime analysis, intelligence analysis, or interpretation of law enforcement data.
  • OR High school diploma and six years of full-time experience in research, crime analysis, intelligence analysis, or interpretation of law enforcement data.
  • Texas Class “C” Driver’s license or equivalent from any other US State.
  • Ability to pass a thorough background investigation; may be required to obtain and maintain federal security clearance as needed for assignment.
  • Normal speech, normal or corrected vision, and normal or corrected hearing.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, public administration, data analytics, or a related field.
  • Four or more years of experience in crime or intelligence analysis in a law enforcement or public safety agency.
  • Professional certification from the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA) or the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA).
  • Experience with crime analysis, statistical, and mapping software (e.g., RMS, CAD, GIS, statistical packages, dashboard/BI tools).
  • Experience presenting analytical findings to command staff, elected officials, and community groups.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts tactical crime and intelligence analysis to support active investigations, proactive enforcement, patrol deployment, and officer safety initiatives.
  • Produces tactical intelligence products such as link charts, association matrices, person-of-interest profiles, and threat bulletins to support investigations.
  • Evaluates information, selects essential elements, correlates new information with existing information, and prepares comprehensive written and visual reports that summarize findings, trends, and recommendations.
  • Conducts strategic intelligence analysis of long-term criminal trends, emerging threats, and organizational risks impacting public safety.
  • Creates network diagrams, communication flow charts, and visual intelligence products for investigative and interagency briefings.
  • Responds to requests for immediate intelligence or analytical support from department command staff, investigators, patrol supervisors, city administration, and other authorized stakeholders.
  • Facilitates the transfer and sharing of crime and intelligence information between local, state, and federal agencies, and serves as a liaison on multi-jurisdictional projects and investigations.
  • Coordinates with fusion centers and federal partners to contribute to regional intelligence assessments and receive updated threat information.
  • Maintains awareness of current crime analysis and criminal intelligence research, methodologies, and best practices; recommends improvements to department processes and analytical workflows.
  • Maintains awareness of intelligence standards including 28 CFR Part 23 and best practices in criminal intelligence analysis.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes while providing quality customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Assist detectives by conducting analytical research on suspects, associates, vehicles, addresses, and criminal networks.
  • Develop case timelines, link analysis, and event flow charts for active investigations.
  • Analyze phone records, communication patterns, financial data, and open-source information relevant to investigations.
  • Provide investigative leads through pattern recognition and cross-case data correlation.
  • Support search warrants with data extraction interpretation (when trained).
  • May provide training, guidance, or technical assistance to department personnel on data entry standards, analytical tools, and interpretation of analytical products.
  • Provides training to personnel on identifying reportable intelligence and proper documentation for intelligence collection.
  • Review digital evidence (phone extractions, social media data, GPS/location data, communications logs) and summarize relevant findings for investigators.
  • Conduct integrated analysis of multiple data sources to identify movements, relationships, or behavioral patterns.
  • Convert raw digital outputs into officer-friendly analytical products.
  • May testify in court regarding analytical findings, methodologies, and data sources as required.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
