About The Position

The Toro Company is seeking an Intellectual Property Attorney to provide enterprise-wide legal counsel and advocacy. This role involves analyzing, registering, and protecting the company's intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and domain names, while also ensuring avoidance of infringement on others' intellectual property. The position is based in Bloomington, MN.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Science/Engineering undergraduate degree or equivalent technical credits for USPTO Registration Exam eligibility.
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice in relevant jurisdiction(s).
  • 1+ years as a registered patent attorney required.
  • Exhibits sound judgment, balancing business needs and legal requirements.
  • Ability to develop and articulate business-minded alternatives and solutions to achieve business objectives.
  • Excellent communication.
  • Efficiently work in both independent and collaborative settings.

Nice To Haves

  • IP license negotiation and drafting experience preferred.
  • Extensive experience with USPTO patent prosecution.
  • Proven partner to inside and outside legal counsel and teams.
  • Skilled in advising business partners.
  • Two or more years of technical experience.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Attentive to detail while prioritizing tasks and assignments.
  • Exhibits a professional, hard-working, proactive, enthusiastic and flexible demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patentability analysis, including searching, evaluating, preparing claim strategy and drafting applications.
  • Provide IP infringement avoidance counseling.
  • Support IP lawsuits, with and through the assistance of inhouse and external counsel.
  • Monitor competitive IP landscapes.
  • Support IP agreements including license agreements, joint development agreements, nondisclosure agreements, and consulting agreements.
  • Perform supervised merger and acquisition due diligence with respect to IP matters.
