About The Position

This position is responsible for ensuring the integrity of pipe systems through various inspection, analysis, and monitoring activities. The Integrity Engineer will conduct inspections, collect data, perform root cause analysis, and recommend mitigation measures for corrosion and interference issues. They will also oversee contractor work, apply new technologies, and collaborate with engineering and operations teams to plan and execute integrity activities. The role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and may require occasional travel and stand-by duty.

Requirements

  • High school diploma plus 4 years of experience as Corrosion Control Technician; or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of eLearning based pre-requisites.
  • Successful completion of Corrosion Essentials ILT courses 1 through 5 or equivalent work experience.
  • Must obtain and maintain minimum Operator Qualifications (OQs) and classroom training for position and any other required OQs and classroom training or certifications.
  • Must hold (NACE) CP 2 Cathodic Protection Technician.
  • Requires valid driver's license.
  • Requires the ability to communicate with internal/external customers to obtain and/or provide explanations and/or information.
  • Requires a working knowledge of various software applications to create documents, reports and graphical design.
  • Requires ability to perform algebraic, trigonometric and geometric operations and/or moderately complex statistical methods.
  • Must be able to pass basic math assessment.
  • Ability to lift 53 pounds from the ground to 52 inches. (Ex: lifting and operating fire extinguisher).
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and/or crouch.
  • Ability to walk a distance of 500 feet.
  • Requires the acute sense of sight and hearing (corrected or uncorrected) and strong sense of smell.
  • As a Safety-Sensitive position, pre and post-employment screenings, including but not limited to drug testing as outlined by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), and motor vehicle record (MVR) background checks are required.

  • May be required to obtain NACE Coating Inspector Level 1 Certification and NACE Internal Corrosion Technologist within 6 months.
  • Must maintain NACE membership in good standing.
  • May require the successful completion of a math assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts inspections of pipe and coatings during integrity digs and other excavations.
  • Collects and accurately records information during pipe excavations, performs root cause analysis and recommends preventive and mitigating measures.
  • Inspects coating application during repairs and new construction to assure proper coating material and application procedures are utilized.
  • Identifies Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC) interference, inspects installation of interference mitigation facilities, and monitors and maintains effectiveness of mitigation facilities.
  • Conducts sampling of liquids and solids recovered during pipe inspections and pigging operations to assure accurate laboratory analysis.
  • Monitors internal corrosion coupons / probes and chemical treatments.
  • Recommends and monitors chemical treatments and drying after hydro-tests.
  • Recommends maintenance pigging frequency and participates in conducting maintenance pigging and in-line inspections.
  • Conducts electrical surveys for direct assessments and other surveys to identify interference currents and external corrosion threats.
  • Inspects and monitors work of contractors performing pipe inspections, direct assessment indirect surveys, and other electrical surveys.
  • Takes the lead in applying new technology and skills to accomplish tasks.
  • Assists in training and directing other employees engaged in similar duties.
  • Works closely with engineers, operations, and compliance personnel to plan integrity activities, identify threats of concern and recommend and implement measures to mitigate the threats.
  • Works with project specialists, engineering and compliance on DC and AC interference prevention / mitigation and coating application when new steel pipe systems are being designed, relocated or replaced.
  • Performs Cathodic Protection (CP) compliance required surveys as needed.
  • Identifies, addresses, and reports safety and encroachment issues to their resolution and completion.
  • Is responsible for the safe operation and inspection of assigned Company vehicles and equipment.

  • Must become familiar with the contents of the Safety Manual, live by the spirit of its intent and become involved in creating and maintaining a safe working environment. Must complete all required safety training.
