Integration and Test Engineer, Software

Anduril•Costa Mesa, CA
•$146,000 - $194,000•Onsite

About The Position

Anduril Industries is hiring an Integration and Test Engineer with a strong software focus for its Maneuver Dominance team at its Costa Mesa headquarters. The team develops operationally relevant, multi-asset autonomy and is growing an early-stage autonomous air vehicle program. The program modifies an existing platform and integrates advanced autonomy, mission systems, and payloads. The engineer will help develop and scale Hardware-In-The-Loop (HITL) capabilities, building the software infrastructure, test framework, automation, and tooling needed to bring up and operate complex HITL systems. The role connects simulation, hardware integration, and system-level testing to enable reliable, repeatable testing on physical systems. The engineer will work closely with software, systems, simulation, and hardware engineers in a lean, collaborative vehicle team. Responsibilities include developing testing and logging infrastructure, diagnostics, fault injection, automated testing, configuration management, and CI/CD pipelines. The role also supports physical HITL stand-up and maintenance, hardware integration, and troubleshooting of real-time simulation and integration problems. Work takes place in prototype and experimental environments and requires a strong safety mindset.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or similar in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautics Engineering, or a similar field.
  • Ability to own software infrastructure from development through deployment, testing, and maintenance.
  • Experience developing automated test frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, configuration-management processes, and test tooling such as logging, diagnostics, and debugging utilities.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and C++.
  • Experience with GitHub.
  • Experience developing, operating, and maintaining software frameworks for HIL/HITL/Ironbird/System Support Equipment in a Group 4 or Group 5 UAS, aerospace, or defense vehicle integration and test environment.
  • Understanding of software/hardware interfaces, networking, and electrical bus protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, RS-232/422/485, and MIL-STD-1553.
  • Strong debugging skills and ability to troubleshoot across software and hardware boundaries.
  • Hands-on experience working with and troubleshooting electrical systems, harnesses, LRUs, and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Experience using diagnostic and protocol-analysis tools such as Saleae Logic Analyzers, Wireshark, PEAK-System CAN interfaces, or similar tools.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adapt quickly in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative culture.

Nice To Haves

  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance in the United States, United Kingdom, or Australia is described as desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Experience performing LRU-, subsystem-, and system-level hardware integration and bring-up.
  • Prior experience with oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, programmable power supplies, electronic loads, and other electrical test equipment.
  • Familiarity with Nix.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain test frameworks and software infrastructure that bridge Software-In-The-Loop (SITL) and Hardware-In-The-Loop (HITL) testing.
  • Develop logging infrastructure and log-processing tools to capture, organize, correlate, and analyze system behavior during HITL testing.
  • Develop diagnostics and telemetry debugging capabilities to provide system-state visibility and support troubleshooting.
  • Develop fault-injection capabilities to introduce and evaluate controlled failures and degraded conditions.
  • Build automated tests to evaluate system behavior, fault detection, handling, recovery, and graceful degradation.
  • Develop configuration-management tracking tools to support consistent and reproducible HITL configurations.
  • Automate HITL health checks, setup, configuration, deployment, and test execution.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for regression testing.
  • Establish software and testing best practices for reliable use of HITL systems throughout development and integration.
  • Support the physical stand-up, configuration, and maintenance of open-loop and closed-loop HITLs, including integration of hardware, compute, networking, sensors, and other components.
  • Troubleshoot real-time simulation issues during HITL operations, including timing constraints, hardware interface problems, and model-fidelity discrepancies.
  • Work with software, systems, simulation, and hardware engineers to identify and resolve integration and test issues.
  • Follow established safety procedures, identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, and efficiency, and maintain a strong safety mindset when operating prototype and experimental systems.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers.
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, described as comprehensive and competitive and available at little to no cost to employees.
