About The Position

VSC Fire & Security in Dallas, Texas is seeking candidates for the position of Integrated Systems Designer ll. This role is responsible for designing, coordinating, and submitting Integrated Systems drawings, and material/equipment schedules. The designer will create drawings using information from the project's scope, architectural drawings, job specifications, site surveys, and relevant codes (NFPA, IBC, UFC, local building codes). Responsibilities include handling all aspects of design layout, field checking, material equipment submittals, installation requirements, and close out procedures. Integrated Systems may include Fire Alarm, Intrusion Detection, Access Control, CCTV, IP Cameras, Networking Infrastructure, BDA, DAS, Audio/Video, Nurse Call, Area of Refuge, Intercom, and various associated systems and brands.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of experience with AutoCAD or background in mathematics.
  • Ability to pass various background checks.
  • Reliable transportation, valid State Driver's License with acceptable driving record for use of company vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • NICET Level ll or lll, or equivalent experience.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in drafting (AutoCAD).

Responsibilities

  • Designing, coordinating, and submitting Integrated Systems drawings, and material/equipment schedules.
  • Creating drawings using information from the project's scope, architectural drawings, job specifications, site surveys, and relevant codes (NFPA, IBC, UFC, local building codes).
  • Handling all aspects of design layout, field checking, material equipment submittals, installation requirements, and close out procedures.
  • Reviewing architectural drawings, mechanical, site, structural and completes site surveys, and research essential information as required for structural and mechanical elements.
  • Integrating other mechanical systems to ensure successful coordination with the integrated systems and recognizing potential conflicts with other trades.
  • Ensuring compliance with NFPA standards and insurance requirements as well as all fire and building code requirements.
  • Providing updates to purchasing as installation schedule or change orders require modifications to meet installation schedule and deadlines and other requirements.
  • Organizing, planning, and prioritizing multiple projects to meet individual deadlines with exceptional attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Communicating with Design Manager and Field Superintendent to review design, installation and testing of devices and systems throughout the project.
  • Monitoring and enforcing safety policies and procedures.
  • Assisting and training less experienced designers, serving as a leader and mentor in the Design Department.
  • Interpreting instructions and directives from supervisor accurately.
  • Communicating effectively with co-workers, supervisors, contractors, Architects, Engineers, and AHJs.
  • Requesting information from sales manager, project manager, contractor, or owner as needed.
  • Checking layout against estimate or design information sheet.
  • Preparing equipment and material submittals.
  • Submitting designs for review, approval, and permitting.
  • Responding to requests for additional information and revisions.
  • Updating design based on job site changes and code requirements.
  • Managing change orders to customer's satisfaction.
  • Submitting material lists and requisitions devices.
  • Providing updates to purchasing based on installation schedule or change orders.
  • Collaborating with Design Manager and Field Superintendent throughout the project.
  • Conducting site visits to survey layout, review work progress, and assess design changes.
  • Preparing as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and other closeout documents upon project completion.
