About The Position

The Integrated Health Program (IHP) is a collaboration between the Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) and University Health Services (UHS) where counselors work with the medical providers to provide collaborative and comprehensive medical and psychological healthcare in a primary care setting. This position will provide triage, assessment, and brief individual therapy as well as crisis counseling for university students who are seeking services in UHS. The mission at Healthyhorns is to enhance the health and well-being of students’ bodies, minds and lives in support of their academic and personal goals. Healthyhorns encompasses University Health Services, Counseling and Mental Health Center and Longhorn Wellness Center, working together to support student well-being. CMHC is an accredited on-campus mental health facility offering assessment, referral, group and individual counseling, and psychiatry. UHS is an accredited on-campus medical facility providing general medical care, public health education, and specialty clinics. LWC is the health promotion unit for UHS and CMHC, focusing on educating students about college health issues through workshops, events, and collaborations.

Requirements

  • Masters degree or Doctoral degree in counseling, counseling psychology, clinical psychology, social work, or other field that meets requirements in Texas for licensure.
  • Licensed to practice independently as a Professional Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, or Psychologist.
  • Licensed to practice in the state of Texas; if licensed in another state, must be able to obtain equivalent Texas license within 1 year.
  • Experience working collaboratively in a mental health setting
  • Three years of experience in counseling
  • Significant, focused experience in providing brief individual therapy and crisis intervention
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Provide short-term individual and group counseling as well as crisis interventions to undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Conduct initial assessments of students' presenting concerns.
  • Provide treatment recommendations and conduct short-term counseling with students referred for service.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all service contacts as required by center policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement programmatic interventions which address the psycho-social mental health needs of students as applicable.
  • Develop and facilitate groups in accordance with program needs.
  • Provide clinical consultation to others on an as-needed basis and seek consultation when appropriate.
  • Provide brief crisis consultation to students who present in the medical clinics with urgent mental health needs, as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with medical providers in UHS and other mental health professionals on CMHC's multidisciplinary staff as well as with other university departments and organizations.
  • Review client record to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services offered.
  • Maintain current, accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal law, professional ethics, and CMHC policies.
  • Coordinate referrals between UHS/CMHC and university or community service providers.
  • Provide clinical training and supervision to social work or psychology interns, as well as pre-doctoral psychology practicum students, when applicable.
  • Provide individual supervision of interns, practicum students, or psychiatric nurse practitioners.
  • Provide individual supervision of group co-leaders who are not independently licensed.
  • Supervise interns' supervision of practicum students, when applicable.
  • Offer and supervise preceptorships and apprenticeships for interns.
  • Participate on training-related committees, as needed.
  • Maintain timely signature on supervisee’s clinical documentation and communicate with supervisor of record on relevant issues.
  • Attend and participate in departmental and division meetings and staff development programs as assigned.
  • Participate in prevention and outreach activities, as needed.
  • Comply with all CMHC, UHS and UT policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
