About The Position

The Intake & Wellness Tech I is responsible for the care, feeding, monitoring, and minor treatment of animals under the care of the Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT). This role involves assisting with animal examinations, maintaining animal inventory, cleaning and disinfecting assigned areas, preparing surgery packs, sterilizing equipment, and managing the inventory of medical and shelter supplies. The position also requires providing compassionate customer service and representing HSNT professionally. Major responsibilities include monitoring and treating animals, ensuring safe and humane handling, maintaining accurate medical records, assisting with intake exams, and providing customer service. The role requires knowledge of cleaning and disinfection procedures, animal feeding and watering, proper dilution of cleaning solutions, shelter intake procedures, and accurate medical record entry. It also requires the ability to complete the Fear Free Shelter Program, demonstrate animal handling techniques, and understand HSNT policies and protocols. The position demands the ability to multitask in a high-stress environment, follow directions with attention to detail, work independently, and maintain positive working relationships. A working knowledge of various breeds, illnesses, injuries, and medical conditions is necessary, as is the ability to handle fearful and aggressive animals safely and respectfully. The role requires effective communication and the ability to adapt to changes in programs and procedures.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of proper procedures for daily cleaning, disinfection, and deep cleaning of all areas
  • Knowledge of appropriate daily feeding and water intake of all animals in the care of HSNT
  • Knowledge of proper dilutions for cleaning/disinfecting solutions used at HSNT
  • Ability and desire to learn appropriate shelter intake procedures for canines, felines, and other species
  • Knowledge of accurate medical record entry according to the law
  • Has completed or has the ability to complete the Fear Free Shelter Program (including bonus courses) within 60 days of hire
  • Demonstrate appropriate animal handling and restraint techniques
  • Knowledge of Humane Society of North Texas policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Knowledge of appropriate utilization of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to meet physical demands required such as using a step stool or ladder to reach or stooping and crouching
  • Ability to multitask in high stress, high volume environment
  • Ability to follow directions with attention to detail
  • Ability to complete tasks and assignments accurately with minimal supervision and in a timely manner

Responsibilities

  • Care for, feed, monitor, medicate and perform minor treatment on animals in the care of HSNT
  • Assist team with examinations on all animals in the care of HSNT
  • Maintain daily inventory of animals in the care of HSNT
  • Report observed health or behavior issues to Intake and Wellness Manager, Asst. Manager or Technician IV
  • Clean and disinfect assigned areas in compliance with standard operating procedures
  • Move animals from kennels to surgery and then returned to kennels once recovered from surgery
  • Remove trash from Intake & Wellness area and take to dumpsters
  • Mopping all areas within the medical department
  • Animal enrichment within the Intake & Wellness department
  • Walking dogs that are kenneled in the Intake & Wellness department
  • Make surgery packs and use autoclave machine to sterilize
  • Maintain inventory of medical and shelter supplies while reporting shortages as needed
  • Maintain equipment and supplies in working condition and report any problems or needed repairs to supervisor
  • Represent the Humane Society of North Texas by providing compassionate customer service and focus
  • Protect confidential information
  • Report to work at assigned start time; go to/return from breaks and lunch at assigned times; leave work at assigned shift end
  • Additional tasks assigned by supervisor
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with all employees at all times
  • Monitor and provide treatment for animals within the organization
  • Safe, humane, and appropriate animal handling and restraint
  • Maintain medical records and notes in accordance with the law accurately
  • Assist in performing intake exams on canines, felines, rabbits, and other species
  • Assist medical staff with medical and behavioral evaluations
  • Provide compassionate customer service and focus
  • Proper maintenance, storage, and handling of departmental supplies, such as, but not limited to, vaccines, diagnostic testing supplies, medications and cleaning equipment/supplies
