About The Position

Join McAlister Institute, a 49-year beacon in San Diego's Recovery Community. The Intake Specialist is a critical first point of contact for clients entering services at our programs. Reporting directly to the Program Manager, this position provides intake coordination, administrative support, and ensures clients are guided into the appropriate level of care. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, compassionate, and knowledgeable about substance use services.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of administrative/clerical experience, preferably in a healthcare or social services setting.
  • Certified or Registered (CAADE, CADTP, or equivalent required).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Compliance with all agency and contract requirements related to trainings, public health, certifications, and reporting.
  • Ability to pass all pre-employment screening, including references, education verification, a criminal background check with at least one year clear of probation or parole, a drug test, and a negative TB test.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application.

  • All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment requirements including a criminal background investigation, which involves fingerprinting.
  • A pre-employment physical examination, and post-offer background check is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in human services field preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold and promote the mission, philosophy, values, and direction of McAlister Institute.
  • Provide accurate, detailed information to all phone inquiries in a courteous manner.
  • Conduct brief ASAM screenings by phone to assess the appropriate level of care.
  • Offer referrals and warm hand-offs for individuals not meeting the program’s level of care criteria.
  • Schedule intake appointments and manage intake calendar.
  • Complete all intake documentation and paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Collaborate with LPHA to communicate accurate clinical information face-to-face.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
