The Intake Screener must understand clinical criteria for admission, describe levels of care, and utilize the contracted payor listing. They also collaborate with internal and external parties, connect patients with outside resources when needed, and participate in on-call, weekend, and holiday schedules. Adherence to department standards for quality and productivity, as well as compliance with external regulatory agencies like Joint Commission, HIPAA, and EMTALA, is crucial.
