About The Position

Austin Oaks Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Night Shift (7p-7a). This role involves responding to incoming calls for referrals and admissions, assessing patients' psychiatric and medical status, and accurately documenting all information in the computer system. The Intake RN ensures referral patient medical records are complete and that nursing and clinical staff are informed of the patient's condition and history. Responsibilities also include copying and distributing referral materials, assessing and intervening in crisis situations, providing leadership to mental health technicians, contributing to the interdisciplinary treatment plan, and administering medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Licensed by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas (or licensed in a compact state).
  • CPR and hospital de-escalation certifications (can be obtained during orientation).
  • Must be able to complete new hire requirements such as a nationwide background check and pre-employment drug screen.
  • State and Federal Office of the Inspector General check.

Nice To Haves

  • One-year psychiatric nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to incoming calls to the hospital to accommodate coordination for referrals/admissions.
  • Provides assessment of patients' psychiatric and medical status.
  • Ensures all inquiries, referrals, and admissions are documented accurately in the computer system.
  • Documents notes regarding referrals and upcoming admissions on proper forms.
  • Ensures all referral patient medical record information is completed.
  • Ensures nursing and clinical staff are adequately apprised of the patient's condition/history.
  • Ensures referral material is copied/distributed and prepared in unit charts as required.
  • Assesses, directs, and intervenes in crisis situations.
  • Provides leadership and direction to mental health technicians.
  • Contributes to treatment plan as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Administers medication and medical treatment as prescribed by Physician.
