The Intake RN will provide professional nursing care to patients according to hospital policy and procedure. This role involves assessing patient care needs, planning and implementing nursing care procedures, evaluating patient progress, and modifying care plans as necessary. The Intake RN will also provide teaching to patients and their families and direct the work of nursing support staff through appropriate delegation and supervision. The position requires the ability to conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history, make nursing diagnoses of the medical and emotional status of patients, and recommend treatment options. Collaboration with psychiatrists and other behavioral health staff is essential for designing appropriate treatment plans. The role also includes administering and noting reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications, arranging further medical attention when necessary, and assisting clients in understanding their emotional disturbances and accepting the need for treatment. Accurate record-keeping, including written charts and progress notes in the computer system, is crucial, along with maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with all relevant laws, rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures. The Intake RN must use professional judgment to ascertain and apply appropriate intervention techniques with patients in crisis and assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and patients. Testing for vital signs of pain and ensuring treatments of pain are also part of the duties. The position requires documentation of all patient information on medical charts and adherence to physician’s written orders. Administrative tasks such as filing, answering phones, and typing are also part of the role.
