About The Position

Hoag Addiction Treatment Center is seeking an Intake Counselor to coordinate patient admissions to HATC across all levels of care. This role involves conducting comprehensive assessments of potential patients via phone and in-person at the Emergency Department and hospital floors to determine clinical needs and provide crisis intervention. The Intake Counselor will maintain communication with referral sources, families, and patients, promptly handle incoming calls, and collaborate with the Medical Director to facilitate admissions. They will also educate staff on insurance information, reimbursement/billing issues, and utilization practices, refer inquiries to appropriate external agencies, and maintain open communication with the team regarding anticipated admissions, patient needs, and admission schedules. The position requires effective appointment management for client scheduling and coordination with other staff. Additionally, the Intake Counselor will prepare written reports of pre-admission results adhering to ASAM criteria, including recommendations for the required level of care and treatment. The role includes conducting group counseling sessions and facilitating family group information sessions if needed. Responsibilities also encompass collecting payments for copays, cash payments, and MD fees. A working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems, specifically Epic and KIPU, is required, along with timely and concise completion of the activity report. The Intake Counselor will participate in lunch and learn sessions for networking and information exchange with other professionals and facilities. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Epic and KIPU.
  • Ability to prepare written reports of pre-admission results adhering to ASAM criteria.
  • Skills in conducting comprehensive assessments and providing crisis intervention.
  • Proficiency in maintaining communication with referral sources, families, and patients.
  • Ability to manage appointments and coordinate schedules.
  • Experience in collecting payments for copays, cash payments, and MD fees.
  • Timely and concise completion of activity reports.
