About The Position

Intake & Adoption Counselor Humane Society for Hamilton County Starting Pay: $16.00 per hour Love people. Love animals. Want work that matters. The Humane Society for Hamilton County is hiring an Intake & Adoption Counselor to help guide adopters, support pet owners, process intakes, reunite lost pets, and create an exceptional experience for every guest who walks through our doors. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, brings strong customer service skills, and wants to make a meaningful impact every single day. In this role, you will: Welcome guests and direct them to the right area of the building Answer phones, return messages, and respond to emails in a timely manner Pre-approve adoption applications and help match adopters with the right animals Finalize adoption paperwork and guide customers through the process Process intake paperwork with compassion and professionalism Support lost-and-found reunification efforts Educate the public about animal welfare and shelter services Enter and manage accurate records in PetPoint and related systems Process donations and assist with document organization Reconcile cash drawers and credit card totals at the end of the day Keep public-facing spaces clean, welcoming, and organized Work closely with other departments to ensure smooth daily operations This is a role for someone who can move with purpose, think on their feet, and bring empathy to every interaction. Requirements

  • Have at least 1 year of customer service experience
  • Communicate with warmth, professionalism, and confidence
  • Are comfortable juggling multiple priorities in a busy environment
  • Can stay calm and solution-focused during difficult or emotional situations
  • Enjoy helping people as much as helping animals
  • Are comfortable with computers, email, Microsoft Office, and data entry systems
  • Are available to work nights and weekends
  • Thrive in a fast-moving setting with animal sounds, smells, and allergens
  • Believe in a positive, whatever-it-takes culture
  • Support and embrace a No-Kill philosophy
  • Fear Free Certification is preferred, or the ability to become certified is required.
