About The Position

Northwest Specialty Hospital, an extension of Northern Nevada Medical Center, brings expanded services to a new building located at 6225 Sharlands Ave. in Northwest Reno. The facility will offer acute rehabilitation and adult behavioral health services. Our acute rehabilitation services include occupational, speech, and physical therapy for adults recovering from stroke, injury, or another disabling condition. We offer advanced treatment for a wide range of conditions including stroke, brain injury, amputation, neurological disorders, major multiple traumas and spinal cord and back injuries. All patients will experience private rooms, have access to a newly renovated therapy gym, and personalized care from our qualified staff. The adult behavioral health services offered is an expansion to our current 50 and older program at NNMC. The new program will offer behavioral health services to all adults 18 years and older. The department is managed through a multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, CNAs, social workers, and therapists. Patients will experience an individualized care plan, inclusive of individual and family therapy, activities, medication management, and a 24-hour secure, compassionate environment. This Insurance Verification Representative position is a full time opportunity and offers full benefits and a convenient swing shift schedule. The Insurance Verification Representative is responsible for verification of benefits for all hospital patients. Arranges for the efficient and orderly pre-admission of inpatients and outpatients, and appropriate follow up for emergency department admissions. Ensures that the patient information is collected and that patients are aware of hospital policies and procedures. Interviews incoming patient or representatives and enters information required for admission into computer database. Distributes appropriate information to ancillary departments. Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of insurance billing required.
  • Ability to type 40 wpm comprehensive general clerical skills and computer literacy required.
  • Medical terminology required.

Responsibilities

  • Verification of benefits for all hospital patients.
  • Arranges for the efficient and orderly pre-admission of inpatients and outpatients, and appropriate follow up for emergency department admissions.
  • Ensures that the patient information is collected and that patients are aware of hospital policies and procedures.
  • Interviews incoming patient or representatives and enters information required for admission into computer database.
  • Distributes appropriate information to ancillary departments.
  • Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Hospital policy related to: emergency preparedness, fire, hazardous materials and waste, medical equipment, safety, security and utilities and understands role and expected level of participation.
  • Utilizes standard precautions; complies with OSHA standards pursuant to blood borne pathogen, tuberculosis and hazardous material and waste; complies with infection control policies including isolation precautions and consistent hand hygiene.
  • Reports safety and risk issues; completes incident reports as appropriate.
  • Employee takes an active role in performance improvement teams that may include NPSG, HCAHPS and core measures or other process improvement activities.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
