About The Position

The mission of the Department of Insurance is to enforce the insurance laws and regulations of the state impartially, honestly and expeditiously. The Louisiana Department of Insurance is seeking an Insurance Specialist 1/2/3 to join the Office of Consumer Services/Consumer Complaints Division. In this role, you will investigate consumer complaints and inquiries, research insurance laws and regulations, and work with consumers, insurance industry representatives, and Department staff to resolve complex issues. Requirements

  • Three years of experience in insurance, administrative services, investigations, or law enforcement; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR A bachelor's degree.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate consumer complaints and inquiries by reviewing insurance policies, records, and other information to determine compliance with Louisiana insurance laws and regulations.
  • Research and apply insurance laws, regulations, and Department directives to evaluate complaints and develop appropriate responses.
  • Communicate with consumers, insurance companies, producers, adjusters, attorneys, and other interested parties regarding insurance-related concerns.
  • Conduct complex investigations and work with Department staff to resolve complaint issues and develop recommendations.
  • Prepare clear and professional correspondence and documentation related to consumer complaints and investigations.
  • Provide guidance, leadership, and training assistance to other Insurance Specialists.
  • Meet with insurance company officials, government representatives, attorneys, and other stakeholders regarding insurance laws, regulations, and consumer complaints.
  • Assist with consumer education and outreach by responding to inquiries and providing information and resources.
  • Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.
