About The Position

As an Insurance Market Conduct Examiner Trainee with the Insurance Department, you will build a strong foundation in evaluating how insurance companies operate. This is a chance to grow your knowledge while helping protect consumers across the Commonwealth. You will learn skills that support fair and lawful insurance practices. This role is a great step toward a meaningful public service career. This role focuses on learning how to review insurance company practices to ensure compliance with Pennsylvania laws. You will develop skills needed to support fair treatment of consumers and proper industry operations.

Requirements

  • Four years of paraprofessional experience in insurance, risk management, business administration, public administration, public policy, finance, economics, or accounting; or A bachelor’s degree in insurance, risk management, business administration, public administration, public policy, finance, economics, accounting, or a related area; or An equivalent combination experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 6 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in market conduct examinations at company sites, department offices, or through telework to assess compliance with statutes and regulations
  • Review company records, policy documents, complaints, and related materials to evaluate compliance during examinations
  • Identify violations of laws and make sure supporting documentation is collected by examiners
  • Evaluate claims handling processes, analyze payment trends, identify issues, and recommend corrective actions
  • Ensure insurance producers maintain proper and active licenses
