About The Position

Sperton is seeking an experienced Insurance Defense Attorney for a full-time role based in its Jersey City office in North Jersey, New Jersey. The position offers a flexible hybrid arrangement, typically requiring 2–3 days per week in the office initially.

The attorney will independently manage a diverse insurance defense caseload through all stages of litigation while collaborating with senior attorneys and firm leadership. The work includes automobile liability defense under New Jersey law and maintaining effective relationships with insurance carriers, claims professionals, and corporate clients.

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active New Jersey law license.
• 3–8 years of insurance defense litigation experience.
• Ability to independently manage cases and litigation proceedings.
• Experience with pleadings, discovery, depositions, and motion practice.
• Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in New Jersey automobile liability defense.
• Background representing insurance carriers or self-insured entities.
• Experience with trials, court appearances, mediation, and arbitration.
• Familiarity with premises liability litigation.
• Established relationships with insurance carriers or claims professionals.

Responsibilities

• Manage insurance defense cases through all stages of litigation.
• Draft pleadings, discovery materials, motions, briefs, and case reports.
• Conduct and defend depositions, handle motion practice, and appear in court.
• Participate in mediation and arbitration and prepare cases for trial.
• Handle automobile liability defense matters under New Jersey law.
• Conduct legal research and develop persuasive litigation arguments.
• Maintain effective relationships with insurance carriers, claims professionals, and corporate clients.
