About The Position

An Industrial Insulator installs insulation materials in industrial settings to control temperature, conserve energy, and protect systems and equipment from heat, cold, sound, and fire. They work with various insulating materials, such as fiberglass, mineral wool, foam, or spray-applied coatings, and apply them to pipes, boilers, ductwork, and other industrial structures to improve energy efficiency, safety, and comfort.

Requirements

  • At least 1-3 years of experience in industrial insulation installation, maintenance, or repair.
  • OSHA 10 required
  • Ability to measure, cut, and install insulation materials with precision.
  • Knowledge of various insulation materials and their applications.
  • Ensure all insulation is installed accurately to prevent energy loss, improve efficiency, and meet safety standards.
  • Understanding and adherence to safety practices and regulations, including proper handling of hazardous materials (e.g., asbestos or fiberglass) and PPE usage.
  • Ability to identify and address challenges, such as installing insulation in irregular spaces or ensuring it fits properly around complex equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work as part of a team, and communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and other tradespeople.
  • Basic math skills to measure, cut, and install insulation materials accurately.
  • Ability to perform manual labor while meeting the physical requirements: Standing (50%), Walking (45%), Sitting (5%), Lifting (<= 50 lbs.), Carrying (<= 50 lbs.), Pushing (<= 75 lbs.), Pulling (<= 75 lbs.), Reaching (Frequently), Handling (Frequently), Climbing (Occasionally), Hand Manipulation (Frequently).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in specific industries (e.g., manufacturing, oil & gas, HVAC, power generation) may be advantageous.
  • Incorp provides employees with professional development training to support gaining expertise and promoting growth. Additionally, promotions into supervisory roles, project management, and safety positions are possible with dedication and demonstration of expert knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Installation of Insulation Materials: Apply insulation to pipes, tanks, ducts, and machinery in industrial settings to maintain temperature, reduce energy consumption, and prevent heat loss or gain.
  • Surface Preparation: Prepare surfaces by cleaning, smoothing, and shaping areas before applying insulation materials.
  • Cutting and Shaping Insulation: Measure, cut, and fit insulation materials according to specifications, ensuring a snug and effective installation.
  • Seal Joints and Seams: Use adhesives, sealants, or fasteners to secure insulation materials, ensuring they stay in place and provide maximum efficiency.
  • Work with Different Materials: Install a variety of insulation types, including fiberglass, foam, rubber, mineral wool, cellulose, and reflective materials, depending on the specific needs of the project.
  • Ensure Proper Fitment: Ensure that insulation is installed correctly to prevent gaps, which could reduce efficiency and safety.
  • Energy Efficiency: Focus on improving energy conservation by ensuring proper installation and minimizing heat loss or gain in industrial systems, reducing operational costs.
  • Fire Protection: Install fire-resistant insulation where necessary to prevent the spread of fire and protect equipment and workers.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to strict safety guidelines, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, respirators, and hearing protection. Ensure work is performed according to OSHA and other relevant safety standards.
  • Inspect and Maintain Insulation: Regularly inspect installed insulation for wear and damage, making repairs or replacements when needed to maintain system performance.
  • Work with Blueprints: Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, or technical drawings to understand insulation requirements for specific industrial applications.
  • Collaboration: Work with other tradespeople such as pipefitters, electricians, and maintenance teams to ensure the proper installation of insulation materials in complex systems.
  • Clean-Up: Maintain a clean work environment by disposing of excess materials and cleaning up work areas after completing tasks.
