Accelevation•Miamisburg, OH
•$30 - $39•Onsite

About The Position

The Instrumentation and Controls Technician is an hourly, non-exempt individual contributor responsible for installing, wiring, calibrating, and verifying instrumentation on prefabricated process cooling skids used in data center and critical infrastructure applications. This onsite manufacturing role works alongside mechanical assemblers, pipefitters, electricians, and Engineering to ensure accurate flow, pressure, and temperature measurement and control. The technician completes testing and documentation needed for factory acceptance testing (FAT), product quality, and successful field installation. The work is performed in an onsite fabrication and manufacturing environment. The position may involve occasional field travel for installation or commissioning support. Overtime or flexible scheduling may be required to meet production deadlines.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of hands-on industrial instrumentation, electrical/instrumentation (E&I), equipment packaging, or closely related experience; practical experience with instrument installation and testing is required.
  • Working knowledge of differential pressure, pressure, flow, and temperature measurement, including 2-, 3-, and 4-wire RTDs and thermocouples.
  • Ability to safely and accurately use multimeters, HART communicators, process and pressure calibrators, and temperature calibration tools.
  • Ability to read P&IDs, instrument loop sheets, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications, and produce clear, accurate test records.
  • Familiarity with control valves, actuators, smart positioners, instrument grounding, shielding, and 4–20 mA signal loops.
  • Working knowledge of applicable National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements and safe electrical work practices within the scope of assigned duties.
  • Strong attention to detail, organized wiring and terminations, troubleshooting ability, and commitment to production safety and quality.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with process-cooling skids, OEM equipment packages, HVAC/chilled water systems, data center cooling, PLC/BMS integration, Modbus or BACnet, or UL 508A.
  • Associate degree or technical certificate in instrumentation, industrial electronics, electrical technology, or a related discipline.
  • ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST), NCCER Instrumentation, OSHA 10/30, or NFPA 70E training.

Responsibilities

  • Install and mount differential pressure, pressure, and temperature transmitters, RTDs, thermowells, temperature elements, flow meters, control valves, actuators, and positioners on prefabricated cooling skids according to approved drawings and manufacturer instructions.
  • Route, secure, label, and terminate instrumentation wiring in conduit, cable tray, and flexible raceway, applying proper shielding, grounding, cable identification, and termination practices.
  • Assemble and wire junction boxes, terminal blocks, DIN rail, wire duct, cable glands, and seals to meet enclosure and workmanship requirements.
  • Calibrate and verify field instruments using approved tools, and document as-found and as-left results using traceable calibration standards.
  • Perform point-to-point continuity checks, applicable insulation-resistance tests, and 4–20 mA loop verification from instruments through junction boxes or control panels using equipment-appropriate methods.
  • Set up and stroke control valves; verify travel, fail position, feedback, and instrument response against design specifications.
  • Interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, instrument data sheets, and work instructions; complete calibration records, loop-check sheets, production travelers, and redlines for as-built documentation.
  • Assist Engineering, Quality, and customers with factory acceptance testing (FAT), troubleshoot failures, resolve punch-list items, and correct nonconformances before shipment.
  • Coordinate with mechanical and electrical production teams to maintain safe, high-quality builds and meet manufacturing schedules.
  • Identify recurring installation, testing, or wiring issues and recommend process, tooling, documentation, and 5S improvements to reduce defects and rework.
  • Follow applicable lockout/tagout (LOTO), electrical safe-work practices, OSHA requirements, and company procedures; apply NFPA 70E practices as appropriate to assigned work and authorization.
