About The Position

SpaceXSI is hiring an Instrumentation & Controls Technician to maintain reliable controls and field instruments at its on-site power plant, which supplies power to high-density AI supercomputing facilities in the Memphis and Southaven area. The plant operates 24/7. The technician will calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair instruments and control systems across gas turbines and generators, balance-of-plant, fuel gas and process/fluid systems, water, compressed and instrument air, HVAC, and cooling. The turbine fleet includes equipment from several manufacturers with different control platforms, and the technician is expected to be proficient across the types on site rather than specialize in one OEM. This is a full-time, on-site position in the Memphis region. The schedule flexes to provide continuous I&C coverage and includes nights, weekends, holidays, and callouts. The role involves hands-on work in varied and potentially hazardous environments, following safety procedures and using appropriate PPE. Potential travel to other SpaceXSI sites is required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on instrumentation and controls maintenance in a power plant, generating station, or other high-reliability industrial facility.
  • Willingness to perform hands-on work in all environments, including heat, cold, and rain, and in tight quarters or at heights.
  • Ability to remain focused while working in hazardous environments and wear appropriate PPE.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted.
  • Ability to perform lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying.
  • Ability to work on-site at the power generation facility, with potential travel to other SpaceXSI sites.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with gas turbine or generator controls from more than one manufacturer.
  • Experience with PLCs, turbine control systems, and a plant DCS or equivalent control system.
  • Experience calibrating and troubleshooting 4–20 mA loops, HART devices, control valves, and instrument air.
  • Experience with fuel-gas, water, or balance-of-plant process instruments.
  • Ability to read P&IDs, loop sheets, electrical schematics, and control logic.
  • Experience with LOTO and NFPA 70E / arc-flash practices when working in control panels.
  • Experience using a CMMS, including calibration records and work-order closeout.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, outages, or trip investigations.
  • Associate’s degree or technical certificate in instrumentation, controls, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, test, troubleshoot, and repair field instruments and final elements, including transmitters, switches, analyzers, thermocouples, RTDs, control valves, and actuators.
  • Troubleshoot turbine, generator, and balance-of-plant control systems across every manufacturer on site, including PLCs, turbine controls, and the plant control system.
  • Work with the shift team to identify and resolve trips, alarms, and bad instrument readings, and return equipment to service.
  • Perform loop checks and functional checks during start-up, shutdown, commissioning, and outages.
  • Read and work from P&IDs, loop sheets, wiring diagrams, cause-and-effect charts, and control logic.
  • Complete calibrations and repairs according to procedure, and record as-found/as-left results and work-order closeout in the CMMS.
  • Identify recurring instrument and controls failures and correct their causes.
  • Use AI tools to troubleshoot and simplify calibration records, procedures, and shift handoffs.
  • Follow SpaceXSI safety procedures, including LOTO, NFPA 70E / arc-flash, confined space, and hot work requirements; stop work when conditions are unsafe.
  • Flex shifts and work hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and callouts, to maintain 24/7 I&C coverage.
