About The Position

Novetus Engineering LLC is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer with strong experience in power-island systems and developing engineering deliverables for project execution. This is an engineering role focused on specifications, design packages, documentation, and technical oversight for major power-plant equipment; it is not primarily a PLC programming or networking position. The role is based full-time in the Houston office.

The engineer will support Gas Turbine Generators (GTG), Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG), Air-Cooled Condensers (ACC), steam turbines, packaged equipment, and associated balance-of-plant systems. The work includes preparing and managing engineering documentation, reviewing vendor packages, coordinating with project stakeholders, supporting design reviews and project execution, and providing engineering support during commissioning and startup. The role uses SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) and requires familiarity with GE/Baker Hughes Mark VI controls and ASME Code 31.1 Power Piping.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of I&C engineering experience in power generation, combined-cycle, or industrial energy environments.
• Demonstrated experience with GTG, HRSG, ACC, and steam turbines.
• Experience with GE/Baker Hughes Mark VI or Mark VIe control systems.
• Experience with packaged equipment instrumentation and controls.
• Experience with SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).
• Knowledge of ASME Code 31.1 Power Code.
• Strong background in engineering deliverables development, including specifications, drawings, narratives, and logic documentation.
• Experience supporting project engineering, design reviews, and technical documentation workflows.
• Strong communication and technical writing abilities.
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
• Detail-oriented, with strong documentation discipline.
• Comfort working in a project-driven environment with deadlines and deliverable milestones.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with EPC contractors or OEMs on major power-island scopes.
• Familiarity with DCS integration; high-level understanding is sufficient, and PLC programming is not required.
• Field engineering or commissioning support experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering documentation, including instrument specifications, control narratives, logic diagrams, loop sheets, cause-and-effect matrices, and project technical packages.
• Provide I&C engineering support for GTG, HRSG, ACC, steam turbines, and associated balance-of-plant systems.
• Review vendor documentation for packaged equipment and ensure proper integration into plant control systems.
• Provide technical oversight, participate in design reviews, and coordinate with EPCs, OEMs, and internal engineering groups.
• Ensure compliance with ASME Code 31.1 Power Piping, plant standards, and project specifications.
• Use SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) for instrument index management, loop development, and deliverable control.
• Support commissioning and startup through documentation, punch-list resolution, and technical clarification.
• Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and technical evaluations related to instrumentation and control systems.
• Lead or support engineering deliverables for power-island upgrades, retrofits, and reliability improvements.
