About The Position

This position has a target start date of summer 2027. As an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer Intern, you will be assigned to work on a project team and assist the engineering team members in the execution of their project work. These projects may involve the design of new and/or modifications and upgrades to existing power plant systems, components, and structures and are a synergistic integration of both electrical engineering along with control theory. Working under the direction of senior engineers, this position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your academic background in electronic process sensors, digital controllers, touchscreen displays, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, steam turbines and reactors to improve the functionality of nuclear power plants.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science degree in engineering with a strong academic background and coursework in analog and digital control systems, systems engineering, mechatronics, or robotics
  • Enrollment in an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications

Nice To Haves

  • Prior, related internship or co-op experience is preferred
  • Coursework and/or experience in mechatronics and/or robotics
  • An understanding of the practical application of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and technology, including applying systems, principles, techniques, and procedures to a project design
  • Interest in learning and effectively using emerging technologies where relevant to their role
  • Experience with AI, automation, programming, or similar technologies is valued where relevant but is not required unless specifically identified elsewhere in the job description.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs.
  • Work on a variety of tasks associated with project reporting, such as tracking and evaluating project activities, project progress, and associated data.
