About The Position

This position offers the opportunity to utilize and expand your academic background in Instrumentation and Controls Engineering. You will work under the direction and supervision of senior I&C engineers on project teams involved in the design of new power plants, modifications to existing power generation facilities, plant controls betterment, and new upstream and midstream oil and gas facilities. You will assist with the design of process control systems and the preparation of specifications for the procurement of I&C equipment and related installation services. You will assist with the development of I&C design deliverables, including P&IDs, I/O lists, control panel designs, cause & effect matrices, control narratives, network architecture, cable schedules, and location plans. Through mentoring, classroom-style technical sessions, and on-the-job training, you will increase your knowledge and skills in your engineering discipline.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in a BS or MS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • An emphasis on control systems is preferred.
  • Ability to apply I&C engineering principles to project design deliverables and technical problem solving.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, with emphasis on MS Excel and Access.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Exceptional work habits.
  • Resourceful and enthusiastic attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Enrollment in an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, and models.
  • Related engineering internship or co-op work experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within campus and/or the community.
  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation.
  • A minor, certificate, or other training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that helps you apply automation or agentic AI to real engineering problems.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design of process control systems.
  • Prepare specifications for the procurement of I&C equipment and related installation services.
  • Assist with the development of I&C design deliverables, including P&IDs, I/O lists, control panel designs, cause & effect matrices, control narratives, network architecture, cable schedules, and location plans.
  • Take engineering problems from issue to solution using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
  • Build or use automation to create calculations, summarize technical documents, or draft design documentation, including appropriate use of agentic AI tools, with strong engineering judgment and verification of results.
