About The Position

The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer I is an entry-level engineering role responsible for supporting the design, documentation, and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for gas turbine and power plant projects. This position focuses on learning core I&C principles, developing technical skills, and assisting senior engineers in project execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Typically 0–3 years of relevant experience (internships/co-ops considered)
  • Basic understanding of instrumentation and control concepts.
  • Exposure to power generation or industrial systems preferred.
  • Familiarity (or willingness to learn) control systems such as: Netmation, MK5/MK6, T3000, Ovation, DeltaV, SIMATIC, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of instrumentation devices: Pressure, temperature (RTD/thermocouple), level, flow, valves, etc.
  • Exposure to engineering tools such as SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation) is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of P&IDs, I/O concepts, and signal types.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the I&C discipline.
  • Willingness to travel up to 5-10%.

  • Exposure to power generation or industrial systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Assist in reviewing customer requirements and project specifications.
  • Support development of instrumentation procurement schedules.
  • Assist in preparation of technical specifications and Requests for Quotation (RFQs).
  • Review vendor documentation and support quote evaluations under supervision.
  • Assist in verifying instrumentation against P&IDs and developing instrument indexes/lists.
  • Support creation and updating of: Instrument loops, Datasheets, Instrumentation drawings
  • Provide support for I/O list development and related documentation.
  • Assist in resolving customer comments and updating drawings/documents.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (design, operations, procurement, sales).
  • Support communication with suppliers and contractors as directed.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of I&C procedures and checklists.
  • Participate in troubleshooting activities and field support when required.
  • Learn and apply applicable industry codes and standards (ISA, ANSI/NEMA, NFPA, AGA, etc.)
  • Support vendor qualification activities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
