This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with three days in the office and two days remote. Nuclear Power is a carbon-free energy source. Our nuclear power generation clients are digitizing their existing power plants and building new nuclear power plants, including small modular reactors (SMRs), due to increasing demand for electric power. This expansion has created a need for additional I&C Engineers in Sargent & Lundy's Instrumentation and Controls Engineering group. This position offers the opportunity to utilize and expand your engineering background by digitizing nuclear power plants. You will work on a multi-discipline engineering team involved in nuclear power plant instrumentation and controls betterment projects, which involve the integration of electrical and mechanical engineering with control theory. You will work with electronic process sensors, digital controllers, touchscreen displays, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, steam turbines, and reactors to improve the functionality of nuclear power plants. Responsibilities include preparing functional requirement and procurement specifications for instrumentation and controls equipment, preparing I&C engineering calculations, and preparing documentation for design input for drawing production, including cable block diagrams and schematics. You will also provide guidance as a mentor to less experienced nuclear instrumentation and control design engineers through mentoring, classroom-style technical sessions, and on-the-job training. Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for project coordination and field verification of designs is also required.
