About The Position

ODEC is seeking an Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Technician responsible for maintaining controls to ensure equipment operates at a high efficiency level. This role involves ensuring the plant emission’s monitoring system is operated and maintained in accordance with State and Federal specifications and regulations, while adhering to all safety, NERC, and environmental standards. The technician will maintain plant control systems, keep documentation up-to-date, and report equipment issues to the Operations Manager. They will also assist Operations in maintaining plant systems, troubleshoot using the Distribution Control System (DCS) to resolve equipment failures, and work with the operations team on maintenance as needed. The role may include operating systems as a back-up operator, maintaining and training others on test equipment, verifying calibration equipment documentation, and ensuring compliance with budgets. Additionally, the I&C Technician will assist in outage planning, schedule I&C related work, coordinate Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures during outages, and manage the purchasing of parts and equipment, as well as contractor scheduling with the Operations Manager. The position also involves developing and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental policies, monitoring plant compliance with EH&S requirements, assisting in reporting, and participating in EH&S audits.

Requirements

Minimum 4 years’ experience working with instrumentation and controls within the power industry required.
Thorough understanding of power plant fundamentals, process and operations.
Effective written and oral communications skills to all levels of the organization.
In-depth understanding of the electric utility industry.
High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Maintaining controls to allow equipment to operate at a high efficiency level.
Ensuring the plant emission’s monitoring system is operated and maintained in accordance with State and Federal specifications and regulations.
Performing duties while following all safety, NERC, and environmental standards and regulations.
Ensuring the plant controls systems are maintained and documentation kept up to date.
Timely reporting all safety and mechanical equipment issues throughout the facility to the Operations Manager.
Assisting Operations in maintaining all plant systems.
Troubleshooting using the Distribution Control System (DCS) to resolve problems with equipment failures.
Working with the operations team with maintenance as needed.
Operating systems as a back-up operator as requested and needed.
Maintaining test equipment and training operations team in use of test equipment.
Verifying and maintaining documentation on all calibration equipment.
Effectively training operators on safe and proper use of test equipment.
Ensuring strict compliance with all budgets.
Assisting in outage planning for the desired field.
Scheduling I&C related work prior to plant outages.
Coordinating with operations in scheduling work during outage for the purpose of LOTOs (Lock Out Tag Out).
Coordinating purchasing parts and equipment and scheduling with contractors for specific jobs with the Operations Manager.
Developing and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental policies and procedures.
Monitoring and ensuring plant compliance with state, federal and local environmental health and safety requirements.
Assisting in obtaining data to ensure quarterly DMR and EER reports are filed timely and accurately.
Participating in plant EH&S audits and ensuring remediation of discrepancies.
