About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Instrumentation and Controls Engineer for our New York, NY office. Be involved in projects with our Buildings Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges!

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • Degree in mechanical, electrical/electronic, or instrumentation engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of relevant post education experience.
  • Technical knowledge of Building Management Systems including DDC, , data switches, servers, and other related computing equipment.
  • Experience drafting documents using BMS related symbology, ISA Standards in terms of symbols (a-plus), acronyms, line types, loop diagrams, graphic displays, and alarm management.
  • Understanding and experience sizing IT infrastructure such as servers, workstations, switches, routers, gateways, and other related equipment/devices.
  • Provide direct support to field Construction Administration and Commissioning resources.
  • Basic or deep understanding of BACnet, Modbus and other communication protocols used in the BMS industry.
  • Familiarity with mechanical engineering and/or electrical engineering principles, practices, design/build methods, and problem solving.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Self-starter with experience developing detailed engineering drawings and specifications for instrumentation systems.
  • Performs assessments to determine instrument installation requirements.
  • Collaborates with other engineers to select and coordinate appropriate instruments and control devices.
  • Knowledge and experience producing design and construction documents such as: Drawings – Control schematics, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, , and network diagrams. Schedules – Control valves, dampers, , end devices, , I/O points, tags, alarms, bill of materials, and network devices. Details – Panel design, instrument, and other control elements is a plus. Specifications – Experience, good working knowledge, or willingness to learn. Understanding of HVAC concepts and systems. Ability to write a sequence of operation in language that a contractor can understand.
  • Document Production Tools - Revit, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or AutoCAD MEP and MS Office as minimum.
  • Creating and maintaining instrumentation documentation including specifications, calibration procedures, and maintenance plans.
  • With minimal supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from different sources as applicable such as physical work site, surveys, MEP drawings, schematics, technical drawings, computer-generated reports, and other sources for project development, design, and construction.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with building and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
  • Willing to assist with Construction Administration (CA) activities such as submittal reviews and direct field support including potential site visits.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct by adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
