About The Position

ETCH is a startup commercializing a radically new and efficient decarbonization technology for the simultaneous greenhouse gas-free production of hydrogen and solid carbon from natural gas. The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer position at ETCH, INC will maintain and improve current SCADA systems and perform I&C design for systems under development (controls, instrumentation, data collection, electrical, and connectivity). Primary duties are designing and implementing control logic, developing specifications for PLC control and instrumentation, and guiding control and instrumentation testing for ETCH’s pilot and scale-up reactor.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years experience in an I&C development role
  • Experience with industrial chemical plants
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Siemens, or Emerson hardware and software
  • Familiarity with various communications protocols: Modbus TCP, Serial, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be able to work safely and follow safety precautions in industrial environments (temperature, humidity, noise, confined spaces, etc.)
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment toward timely execution of goals

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with industrial power (3 phase, 480V, transformer specifications) is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Design control algorithms, safety loops, and narratives to support testing and general operation
  • Author I&C system hardware descriptions including requirements, functional specifications, and I&C system architecture descriptions.
  • Develop troubleshooting plans and calculation and analysis documents to support design reviews.
  • Author factory acceptance test procedures and develop program for instrument checking, calibration, and testing.
  • Collaborate in the technical oversight and direction of external design teams (engineering firms) and internal design teams.
  • Facilitate and assist in the assessment of customer needs and capture requirements and functions of the I&C design for process systems.
  • Recommend process system design modifications and improvements to improve quality of products and/or procedures from a construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and/or decommissioning perspective.
  • Lead reviews and presentations for internal and external design reviews regarding I&C process systems design.
  • Participate in Process Hazards Analysis
  • Design systems in compliance with regulatory requirements such as the National Electric Code
  • Implementation of hardware and software following company policies and procedures such as Management of Change and Lock Out/Tag Out.
