About The Position

Perform technical responsibilities relative to assisting physicians with the instrumentation of surgical intervention. Monitors PAR levels of all surgical instruments and supplies. Cleans and sterilizes all surgical instruments.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School or equivalent.
  • Current BLS Certification and must maintain certification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in EMR and computer literacy.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages preferred.
  • Create and provide a positive, accountable and inspired work environment.
  • Well organized and attentive to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares room in a timely manner with all anticipated instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment for each individual surgical procedure.
  • Accurately completes operating room counts (instruments, sponges, needles); follows proper procedure in the event of incorrect count; reports all discrepancies to Circulation Nurse and surgeon and/ or corrects immediately.
  • Maintains accurate and required sterilization logs and documentation in accordance with facility policies.
  • Checks all equipment/ instruments needed, prior to each procedure to ensure proper functioning.
  • Protects patient’s sensitivities and right to privacy; closely observes patient with minimal disturbance.
  • Is responsible for care of instruments/ equipment during intra/postoperative phase, including cleaning and processing of instruments.
  • Responsible for reviewing the daily surgical schedule and pulling the appropriate intraocular lenses for each schedule case.
  • Follows written procedures for steam sterilization; knows responsibilities and the necessity for chemical and biological monitoring.
  • Regularly collaborates with other members of the nursing team to maintain equipment and supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Will cross train to multiple areas in the ASC such as Surgical Tech and other assigned duties within scope of practice.
  • Assist DON with Life Safety Logs as needed
  • Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of assigned case and instruments and/ or lenses to be pulled for the procedure.
  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements and follows DFUs and AAAHC standards.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintains availability to stay for the duration of surgical days and be available on non-surgical days
  • Attends any mandatory staff meetings for department.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
