About The Position

Fairview, University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank, located in Minneapolis by the U of MN, has an immediate opening for a Sterile Processing Technician. This role provides the Operating Room with the surgical instruments and supplies needed for surgical cases. The technician decontaminates, sets up, and sterilizes surgical instruments. This position serves as a resource for physicians, nurses, and medical staff for the OR Operating Room. This is a 0.8 FTE (64 hours per two-week pay period) opening on evening shift, 2:30-11PM, Monday - Thursday, with weekends as needed, onsite. A full Benefits package is offered. All hires must complete a 12-week orientation following hire, and candidates must be able to commit to working a full-time day shift position for these 12 weeks. As an instrument technician, you will provide surgical instruments and supplies needed for procedures and cases. You will decontaminate, clean, process, assemble, sterilize, store, and distribute reusable instruments and medical devices. You will also serve as a resource to physicians, nurses, and medical staff regarding instruments and supplies. Job expectations may vary depending on location and services provided. Sites may perform surgical case cart assembly, intraoperative supply picking, and high-level disinfection of flexible endoscopes and other semi-critical devices. You will review and interpret all resources needed to determine the priority of instruments and medical devices required. You will inspect, test, assemble, package, and label surgical instruments in preparation for sterilization. You will ensure instruments are available and ready for site-specific and System CSSD-CPC trays. You will perform manual decontamination of reusable instruments and equipment, and follow manufacturers' written instructions for use and system policies and procedures. You will operate automated and non-automated processing equipment such as instrument washers, sterilizers, biological incubators, heat sealers, and other commonly used equipment in sterile processing. You will serve as a resource to clinical staff as needed and demonstrate the ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of the population served. You will maintain knowledge of and comply with all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.

Requirements

  • 6 months experience in an operating room, medical device reprocessing role or related role OR completion of an approved Fairview Sterile Processing training program

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a Central Service program, Accredited Surgical Technologist program or Licensed Practical Nurse program.
  • Two years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician, a Surgical Technologist, or in a medical device reprocessing role.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification

Responsibilities
