About The Position

This position is classified as an LNG Instrument Technician within the Gas Network Operations Department, specifically in the Long Island LNG section. The role involves performing the highest level of diagnostic, maintenance, repair, and installation work on plant instrumentation, automatic control equipment, telemetric measurement systems, SCADA, DCS, BOP, and related control systems. This includes work on cryogenic liquid equipment, pneumatic equipment, AC/DC equipment up to 4KV, and pressure relief valves. The technician will be required to work from high heights, vaults, and manholes. The role demands independent work with minimal supervision, effective communication of findings and recommendations to the Supervisor, and utilization of systems like MAXIMO, OT PAWS, Beamex, and CMX for safe and reliable plant operation. A comprehensive understanding of plant processes is essential for diagnosing and correcting instrumentation and control system issues without jeopardizing operations. The technician will also adjust, repair, calibrate, and install various gas system instruments, including solid-state electronic circuitry. Additionally, the role involves providing guidance and training to other personnel, assisting in the construction and installation of specialized systems by interpreting schematics and diagrams, and performing general maintenance duties. Basic tools and digital/analog diagnostic equipment such as multi-meters, meggers, and HART tools will be used.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Electrical Technology, or Electrical Engineering.
  • More than three and one-half years of electrical experience and general working knowledge of electrical circuits and equipment.
  • Valid Driver’s License required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy.
  • Pass Field Assessment Test.
  • Passing written aptitude exam and hands on Plate exam administered by L&D.
  • Demonstrate ability to ascend and descend tank stairs.
  • Willingness to work overtime in accordance with departmental requirements.
  • Willingness to participate in federally mandated drug testing programs.
  • Maintain all LNG qualifications, Physicals and Fire School requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic, maintenance, repair, and installation work on plant instrumentation, automatic control equipment, telemetric measurement systems, SCADA, DCS, BOP, and related control systems.
  • Work on cryogenic liquid equipment, pneumatic equipment, AC/DC equipment up to 4KV, and pressure relief valves.
  • Work from high heights, vaults, and manholes.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, effectively communicating diagnostic findings, system conditions, inventories, and recommended corrective actions to the Supervisor.
  • Utilize MAXIMO, OT PAWS, Beamex, CMX and programs, technology needed to continue plants safe and reliability operation.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of all plant processes and cycles to diagnose instrumentation and control system issues and implement corrective actions without jeopardizing plant operations.
  • Adjust, repair, calibrate, and install all types of gas system instruments including solid state electronic circuitry.
  • Provide instruction, guidance, and on-the-job training to other Instrumentation Section personnel, as assigned.
  • Assist in the construction and installation of specialized instrumentation and control systems by interpreting electrical schematics, control logic diagrams, sketches, and related documentation.
  • Perform maintenance, repair, and related duties as assigned to support safe and reliable plant operations.
  • Use of basic tools and digital/analog diagnostic equipment including but not limited to multi meters, meggers, HART tool.
