About The Position

UW Medical Center - Northwest Central Processing has an outstanding opportunity for an INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN. This role involves disassembling, cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, assembling, and storing equipment and supplies used in the Operating Room or Endoscopy. The position is for 40 hours per week with a shift to be determined. The UW Medical Center–Northwest campus offers emergency and inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical, and therapeutic care. It is located in north Seattle on a beautiful, easy-to-access 44-acre campus that includes the neighboring Northwest Outpatient Medical Center and Specialty Care Meridian Pavilion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one year experience as an Instrument Technician (or equivalent experience in another related OR job), including central processing/central services and decontamination experience.
  • Basic knowledge of disinfection and sterilization principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of hospital/surgical supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to recognize instruments by name and identify if working properly.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning, handling, inspecting, and maintenance of equipment to assure disinfection, sterility and proper functioning.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, clean, disinfect, sterilize, assemble, and store equipment and supplies used in the Operating Room or Endoscopy.
  • Assemble instrument procedure trays, packs, case carts, and kits according to the prescribed manner using content lists.
  • Inspect and test equipment for function and/or damage; assures good working order.
  • Wrap packages of linens, procedure trays, instruments and equipment for sterilization; heat seals; choose the appropriate sterilization process for items and applies the correct sterilization chemical indicator and tape.
  • Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and organized condition; maintain safety and sterility standards.
  • Clean shelves, floors, furniture; disinfect and make bed; empty and replace trash and linen bags.
  • Store, maintain, and inventory supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinate and collaborate effectively with other members of a multi-disciplinary team, including MDs, RNs, and other medical support personnel.
