About The Position

The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician is responsible for cleaning, sterilizing, distributing, and recording patient reusable supplies and equipment. The role also involves decontaminating and assembling instruments for the operating room and throughout the hospital and Mercy Family clinics. The technician ensures OR case carts are correctly set up and contain all instruments needed for each procedure, ready for surgical use.

Under the direction of an OR clinical leader in a designated area, the technician is responsible for instrument inventory, ordering, vendor coordination, and instrument repairs. The position is full-time at 40 hours per week on the day shift.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Interest in continuing education.

Nice To Haves

• CRCST (Certified Registered Central Supply Technician) certificate after the second year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Cooperate and communicate with, and accept direction from, the Director of Sterile Processing, Surgical Services, the Sterile Processing supervisor, and OR clinical leaders regarding daily preparation and distribution of surgery supplies and case cart setups.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of supplies in work areas.
• Decontaminate, distribute, and record patient reusable supplies and equipment.
• Set up OR case carts and ensure all instruments required for each procedure are present and ready for surgical use.
• Clean, wrap, assemble, and sterilize hospital and Mercy Clinic instruments and equipment.
• Manage instrument inventory, ordering, vendor coordination, and repairs under the direction of an OR clinical leader.
