About The Position

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has a unique combination of education, research, and clinical programs that encourages and supports teamwork and diversity. The instrument tech will be responsible for decontamination, assembling and inspecting, packaging, testing, and sterilizing instruments and/or sets in the Reusable Medical Equipment dept. Maintain records of loads and items being removed from the department for processing, transport loads to and from SSD, and prepare proper storage for equipment. Performs routine testing, including biological tests for steam autoclaves, Sterrad, and System 1E. Assist Operating Room (OR) staff with needed supplies and equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.
  • Annual TB Screening, Criminal Background Check, Sex Offender Registry, Substance Abuse Testing

Responsibilities

  • De-contamination: disassemble, clean (by hand and/or machine)
  • Assembly and packaging; instrument inspection and testing, re-assembly of sets, placing in proper containers or wrapping sets
  • Loading and transporting; loads transport carts with prepared sets, maintain a record of loads and items being removed from the department for processing, transports loads to and from CSS
  • Proper storage of instruments and equipment; storing instruments and/or equipment in their designated locations, properly positioning items for ease of identification and verification of sterility
  • Use and testing of sterilizing equipment; perform dart and biological tests for autoclaves; perform diagnostic and biological tests for Steris sterilizer. Records and accurately interprets results of tests.

  • May perform other duties as assigned
