About The Position

The Instrument Specialist – Sterile Processing Department (SPD) serves as the department’s subject matter expert and owner of instrumentation standards, data integrity, asset lifecycle management, and quality governance. This role provides independent judgment, technical oversight, and strategic management of instrumentation systems, inventory standards, and tray configuration processes. The Instrument Specialist maintains instrumentation accuracy, compliance, and optimization across Surgical Services and Sterile Processing operations through auditing, validation, troubleshooting, and systems governance. The role collaborates with leadership, Clinical Coordinators, vendors, Application Support teams, and Surgical Services stakeholders to ensure instrumentation standards support procedural efficiency, regulatory compliance, and long-term operational strategy. The Instrument Specialist is not part of routine SPD production staffing and is not utilized for daily throughput, staffing shortages, or bargaining-unit production functions. Hands-on instrumentation interaction is limited to validation, quality review, troubleshooting, education, and audit-related activities.

Requirements

  • CRCST Certified Registered Central Service Technician - IAHCSMM Required or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician - CBSPD The Certification Board for Sterile Required
  • CIS Certified Instrument Specialist - IAHCSMM Required
  • Five(5) years of Sterile Processing Experience - Required
  • Proficient in practice of instrument, implant, supply and equipment.
  • A high degree of organizational skills, ability to set priorities, manage multiple demands and the ability to complete tasks under strict time lines is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point).
