About The Position

Supervises, plans, organizes and directs the operation of the Instrument Services Section. Oversees the District Maintenance program. Assumes that all instrumentation utilized in the Public Health Laboratory, clinic sites and count laboratories are in compliance with manufacturer's specific jobs. Discretion is limited by required quality control procedures. Supervises maintenance and repairs a variety of clinical and laboratory instrumentation located in PH/DES laboratory buildings, county health departments and regional laboratories statewide. Repair and calibrate laboratory equipment as directed by supervisor or director. Maintain records of preventative maintenance, repairs and calibrations. Equipment listings for each department are kept current. Act as the liaison with the various state and local agencies in the fulfillment of DPH's Maintenance Agreement. Calibrate thermometers used in laboratory equipment. Orders and maintains a spare part inventory. Works within the designated laboratories in order to comply with the Federal Select Agent Program.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and experience or training within the specific work area.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds to a height of 36 inches.
  • Ability to bend, stand or sit for a long period of time.
  • Must have vision correctable to 20/40.
  • Ability to wear protective clothing.
  • Not be immunocompromised due to the risk to the employee.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications, subject to approval by the DPH Chief Human Resources Officer, or their delegate.

  • Possess hands-on experience in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex electronic systems and devices.
