About The Position

Our Raleigh, North Carolina office is seeking an entry-level Instrument Operator to support survey crews on civil, transportation, and site-development projects. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on outdoor work, learning new technical skills, and building a long-term career in surveying. In this role, you will assist with collecting accurate field data, operating survey equipment, and supporting the crew in delivering quality work that helps guide engineering and design projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and willingness to learn.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Interest in building a long-term career in surveying.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
  • Physical ability to walk long distances on project sites, carry equipment, and work outdoors throughout the day.
  • Candidates must be based in the United States and must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework, training, or up to 1 year of experience in land surveying, construction, or related fieldwork preferred.
  • Interest in learning how to use modern survey instruments, GPS equipment, and data collectors.
  • OSHA 10-hour certification is a plus or can be completed after hire if required.
  • Exposure to Trimble, Leica, Topcon, or similar survey systems is a plus, but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of GPS surveying methods, including RTK or static GPS, is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist survey crews with daily field activities on a variety of project sites.
  • Set up, operate, and help maintain survey equipment such as total stations, GPS units, and data collectors.
  • Collect field measurements and notes accurately under the direction of the Party Chief or other senior team members.
  • Assist with boundary, topographic, construction stakeout, and as-built surveys.
  • Perform basic field calculations and quality checks to help ensure accurate data collection.
  • Safely transport, set up, and break down equipment at project sites.
  • Follow company safety procedures and contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Communicate clearly with crew members and complete other field-related duties as assigned.
