About The Position

This role involves collecting survey data and performing layouts in accordance with Bechtel Surveying Procedures. The Instrument Operator will work outdoors in various weather conditions and may work at elevations on structures. Responsibilities include marking points of measurement, staking and grading for excavation, operating survey instruments, and compiling notes and records of data obtained. The position also requires communication with Field Engineers and Supervisors, working under time constraints, and assisting in establishing project control. Reviewing design drawings, checking calculations, and performing minor maintenance on tools and equipment are also part of the role. Additionally, the operator will assist in lifting and securing materials during installation and must adhere to all safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and trains Surveyor Assistants.
  • Collects survey data and performs layouts in accordance with Bechtel Surveying Procedures.
  • Marks points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other identifying mark.
  • Carries and sets stakes and clears brush from survey lines.
  • Stakes and grades for excavation.
  • Operates survey instruments and obtains data pertaining to angles, elevations, points, and contours.
  • Compiles notes, sketches, and records of data obtained, and work performed.
  • Communicates with Field Engineers and Supervisors.
  • Works under time constraints and is adaptable to changing conditions.
  • Assists in establishing horizontal and vertical control for the project.
  • Reviews design drawings for correct data and checks calculations.
  • Loads, transports and unloads materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities on tools and equipment.
  • Assists in lifting, positioning and securing materials and work pieces during installation.
  • Adheres to safety procedures.
