About The Position

This role has responsibility for managing the surgical and procedural instrumentation across the CHOP enterprise. They maintain par levels of instrumentation to ensure adequate supplies are available for clinical procedures. This person manages new instrument acquisition and the instrument repair process for the CHOP system. The Instrument Planner collaborates with clinical leaders to replace missing and broken instruments. They assure appropriate tracking of CHOP instrument inventory, a multimillion-dollar asset. Assures accurate data is maintained for the instruments and sets database within the instrument tracking management system (SPM) to support efficient and accurate tray assembly in CPD.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED Required
  • At least two (2) years Progressive Sterile Processing experience in a complex and diverse healthcare environment. Required
  • At least two (2) years Experience facilitating the workflow in a multi-service surgical enterprise Required
  • At least two (2) years Experience as a sterile processing technician Required
  • Familiar with SPM Microsystems or equivalent system.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft
  • Must be able to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) - upon hire - Required or

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) - Internl Assoc Healthcare Central Svc Material Mgmt - upon hire - Required

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains easy-to-use references for the instrument management system.
  • Establishes and maintains current count sheet lists for every set used throughout the CHOP system.
  • Establishes and maintains picture files in the instrument management program.
  • Supports CPD efficiency by ensuring necessary, real-time information is available in the instrument management system for staff assembling instrument sets.
  • Maintains instrument database in the instrument management program ensuring accuracy and standardization.
  • Maintains set database in the instrument management program, including inventory record for all instrument sets.
  • Maintains a current record of loaners and consignment sets in house.
  • Generates trend reports of instrument refurbishment, repair, and replacement costs month to month.
  • Maintains daily out-for-repair notices to the clinical leadership teams.
  • Maintains inventory record and report of all floor instruments/trays.
  • Functions as the liaison CHOP teams, manufacturers, and vendors to acquire information on new products, assess the marketplace for cost reduction opportunities and assist leadership in the identification and evaluation of new products/services to ensure high quality while maximizing cost effectiveness across the CHOOP enterprise.
  • Collaborates with surgical services Specialty Coordinators to ensure all changes related to instrumentation are coordinated as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates understanding of Central Processing infection control process and policies as they pertain to instrument and equipment maintenance.
  • Collaborates with HLD/S team to arrange appropriate in-service education for staff.
  • Utilizes data and analytics to assure the development of a realistic volume adjusted par level for surgical instrumentation in conjunction with clinical leaders.
  • Works closely with Specialty Coordinators, Central Processing staff, Procurement, and other clinical stakeholders to facilitate the timely and accurate ordering of instrumentation.
  • Provides support for clinical education/training on new instrumentation.
  • Assists in training identified Central Processing personnel on instrument set assembly.
