About The Position

The Instrument and Electrical Technician (I&E Tech) is responsible for safely and responsibly maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the instruments and electrical systems in the Hanging Rock polystyrene plant. This role involves working as an electrically skilled person, with opportunities to become a facility representative in electrical safe work practices. The technician will diagnose and repair instrument and electrical problems, including DCS and PLC hardware and software, calibrate process instruments, and maintain electrical hardware up to and exceeding 480 volts. Planning and scheduling maintenance, developing corrective actions, and performing preventative maintenance are key aspects of the role. The technician will also assist in designing instrument loops and electrical systems, specifying and installing components, and serving as an electrical subject matter expert on projects. Compliance with plant safety and maintenance procedures is essential, with other duties assigned by the Plant Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Five years of experience as an instrument or electrical technician in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to climb stairs.
  • This job may require lifting up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Working as an electrically skilled person as defined in AmSty’s Electrical Safe Work Practices.
  • Performing the role of facility representative as defined in the electrical safe work practices (with experience).
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing instrument and electrical problems and implementing corrective actions.
  • Identifying and repairing DCS and PLC hardware problems.
  • Troubleshooting and programming PLC software.
  • Calibrating process instruments according to applicable standards.
  • Operating and maintaining instrument and electrical testing equipment.
  • Maintaining electrical hardware typically up to 480 volts, but higher voltage electrical infrastructure as well.
  • Planning, prioritizing, and scheduling instrument and electrical maintenance with input from the Operations Manager and Activity Coordinator.
  • Developing and implementing corrective actions identified in incident reports and work orders.
  • Completing instrument and electrical system preventative maintenance activities.
  • Requesting/performing failure analysis as needed.
  • Helping design instruments loops and electrical systems.
  • Specifying, requisitioning, and installing instruments and electrical components (measurements of flow, temperature, pressure).
  • Serving as electrical subject matter expert on expense and capital project reviews.
  • Following and ensuring compliance of plant safety and maintenance procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.

  • The successful candidate is expected to work overtime, normally less than 15%.
