About The Position

The Instrumentation & Controls Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating electrical, instrumentation, control, and monitoring systems that support natural gas underground storage, pipeline, compressor, processing operations, and transmission regulating station assets associated with Nicor Gas’s Western Region Operations. Primary assignment will be out of the Troy Grove facility near Mendota, IL and will support additional facilities in the Rockford, Galena, Dixon and Geneseo areas. This position maintains PLC, SCADA, power distribution, gas measurement, and process control systems; performs preventive and corrective maintenance; and supports regulatory compliance, operational reliability, and emergency response activities. The technician works closely with Operations, Engineering, and contractors to ensure equipment is operated safely, reliably, and in accordance with company standards and applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • Intermediate computer skills with MS operating system and current MS Office applications, and quick to learn other applications (i.e., company software).
  • Associates degree in a technical field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Working experience with 480 VAC motor controls including soft starts and VFDs.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and technical blueprints.
  • Working knowledge of National Electric Code and NFPA 70E
  • Experience applying and interpreting results from common electrical measurement instruments (voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, calibration instruments, etc.).
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driver’s record

Nice To Haves

  • At least three years’ prior work experience in instrumentation, electronics and control systems.
  • Experience with reciprocating and gas turbine engines and ancillary equipment.
  • Knowledge/Experience with process controls and understanding of flammable high-pressure gas, liquid processing fundamentals, and safe handling practices.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation RS5000, RS500 and FTView software.
  • Experience troubleshooting and commissioning 4-20ma pressure, temperature, and flow transmitters.
  • Experience with GE iFix
  • ISA CCST Certifications

Responsibilities

  • Installs, inspects, maintains, operates, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates and adjusts various pneumatic, hydraulic, electric and electronic devices.
  • Installs, programs, troubleshoots and repairs various Programmable Logic (PLC) controls.
  • Perform preventative maintenance checks on compressors, pumps, drivers, and auxiliary equipment, including utilization of Lockout/Tagout Programs.
  • Performs Inspection and Maintenance (I&M) Compliance checks on all control systems and components.
  • Maintain electrical switch gear and power distribution systems up to and including 4160 VAC.
  • Install, analyze and maintain gas measurement systems (Ultrasonic/DP/Orifice)
  • Respond to emergency and operational needs whenever necessary.
  • Identify and report safety and environmental concerns.
  • Completes appropriate documentation and paperwork.
