About The Position

The purpose of this position is to perform Instrument & Controls technical and analytical services essential to maintaining reliable operation of the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (HJAIA) Backup Generation System (PowerSecure PowerBlock Diesel Generator Sets). Georgia Power Company (GPC) personnel at this location are required to observe and adhere to all protocols and procedures including those jointly maintained by GPC and the HJAIA stakeholders. The successful candidate must be available to work a rotating shift schedule which includes nights and weekends. This position will be responsible for maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting all equipment on the PowerBlock up to and including the customer delivery point. The successful candidate must properly and safely use a variety of hand tools, power tools, test, and measurement equipment in the performance of duties. This position requires computer skills to use work management systems for planning, recording, and reporting maintenance activities, controlling inventory, and trending equipment conditions. The candidate must be able to communicate with timeliness, clarity, and professionalism to internal and external stakeholders. This position reports to the Generation Support Asset Manager at the Atlanta Hartsfield - Jackson International Airport. The position requires access to security sensitive areas of HJAIA to perform work duties. The successful candidate will be subjected to a fingerprinting, screening, and background check process performed by HJAIA authorities and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Please note that extended offers (including offers to internal Southern Company employees) are contingent on the ability to successfully meet HJAIA and FBI background requirements. Failure to meet the FBI’s full screening and background requirements may result in the termination of the contingent job offer. The position offers extended work life balance benefits, with a rotating schedule of seven days on and seven days off.

Requirements

  • An approved two-year technical degree from a certified technical institution or transcript showing completion of approved Military Technical Training is required.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must qualify on the EEI Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH) pre-employment test.
  • Pass a drug test and FBI background investigation.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Strong technical background in electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and execute the solutions.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking and deal with difficult situations.
  • Must have superior interpersonal skills; proven written and oral communication skills; ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
  • Competency with computer software & Web-based applications such as Microsoft Office products, work order management systems, and trending tools.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding activities (i.e. walking, climbing ladders, lifting heavy equipment) while working safely in all types of weather is required.
  • Successful completion of the Technical Aptitude Test for Instrument & Controls Technicians.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of I&C equipment/technologies (including Controls, Distributed Controls Systems, PLCs, etc.) is preferred.
  • Electrical background is preferred.
  • Mechanical skills and experience with diesel engines are a plus.
  • Detailed knowledge of controls and data acquisition systems desired.
  • Maximo experience is a plus.

  • Support a 24/7 schedule, including holidays, and covering shift vacancies when necessary.
  • Be willing to support call out/on-call requirements.
  • Adhere to all safety & compliance programs. Place safety first by performing and maintaining every job, every day, safely.
  • Handle complex, high-pressure situations and be adaptable to a changing work environment.
  • Work with SC Generation M&D Center to perform routine testing and respond to operational issues/alarms.
  • Work with and coordinate activities with GPC Distribution personnel as required.
  • Work with vendors and contractors as necessary to ensure proper maintenance and operation of the equipment.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with airport stakeholders.
