About The Position

The Mental Health Association of Columbia-Greene Counties Inc. is seeking an Instructor for an after-school program serving youth in grades K-8. This part-time position involves developing and facilitating age-appropriate educational, recreational, and skill-building activities. The program aims to promote positive attitudes towards school, delay childbearing, and prevent violence by offering engaging alternatives for up to 240 youth. The Instructor will model and teach socially acceptable behaviors, maintain contact with parents and teachers, and foster an environment that builds friendships and encourages healthy social interactions.

Requirements

Must have an understanding of cultural family differences and values with the ability to remain non-judgmental.
Must have an understanding of HIPPA privacy laws and adhere to them.
Must be self-motivated.
Must have excellent verbal, written, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work with a diverse population of urban, suburban and rural cultures and with community members from varying socioeconomic backgrounds.
Demonstrate a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.
Must have an intermediate competency in Windows operating environment using Micro Soft Office applications, database, email, trainings and payroll.
Ability to obtain a Statewide Central Registry and Fingerprint clearance.
A valid NYS Driver’s License and a clean MVR preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop lesson plans to facilitate structured age-appropriate educational, recreational and skill building activities for youth.
Model and teach socially acceptable behaviors.
Maintain regular contact with parents and teachers.
Provide an atmosphere which builds friendships, encourages healthy social interactions, and promotes recreational opportunities for children.
Communicate clearly with youth employing active listening skills.
Establish and maintain professional boundaries.
Define expectations clearly.
Offer reassurance and encouragement.
Work to motivate youth to identify and select appropriate activities.
Respect youth and families’ cultural norms when selecting activities.
Plan and conduct age-appropriate activities in partnership with the youth that achieve their established goals.
Must be able to work regularly outside the office and in the field to engage with participants.
